chicken, lettuce, shredded cheese, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, hard boiled eggs, croutons, crumbled bacon (not that bacon bit crap), and Italian dressing if the chicken is grilled, but ranch dressing if the chicken is fried. and olives if you're into that kind of thing.

It depends on a person but I always find a good chicken salad is prepared with romaine, or lettuce from a lettuce head. Then add whatever veggies, tomatoes, red onion, peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, cheese... Then top with the chicken slices and desired dressing, stir in bowl and your ready to serve.

Hi this is Rebecca mother of 3 married 26 years.

You can put anything you please, as long as you have the basics.

Cold chicken- not warm!
mayo,
salt,
black pepper,
garlic powder (opt)
Onion (chopped to your liking size)
tablespoon or two of hot dog bottle relish (opt),
tablespoon or two of hot dog mustard (not too much)
a drop or two of hot sauce (to taste).
Mix .
Then you can add tomato. Refrigerate for at least an hour so flavors can seep into chicken.
You can also substitute most of those ingredients mayo..etc use Bottle ranch dressing, blue cheese dressing Chippotle dressing etc.
You can also add pecans or even dried cranberries. (Costco sells theirs with pecans and cranberries and it's to die for, worth the $10 ).

Do not add lettuce to the mixture, unless you plan to eat everything in one meal. Next day lettuce looks awful wilted, and slimy. Warm chicken will create moisture when you refrigerate your chicken and so will lettuce. The next morning you'll find a pool of water in your chicken salad. Also try eating it with fresh bag spinach cut up (healthy than lettuce). But if you insist on lettuce use Romaine -firmer and more flavor than iceberg.

Good luck and God bless.

You can make it several different ways. One way is to boil the chicken and then pull it off the bone (in shreds). Add mayonnaise, chopped celery, chopped green onions, swee pickle cubes, freshly ground pepper, salt, celery salt or seed, and paprika.

Another variation would be to use the shredded chicken, mayo, celery, diced apple, red grapes or golden raisins, chopped walnuts and all of the same spices listed above. It's really good served on croissant rolls or just on a bed of lettuce...yum.

Put onions, mayonnaise, pickles, a boiled egg, some pepper, and I've never put tomatoes in my chicken salad, so that's up for grabs. I would try putting those on the side, and see whether or not you like it.

For Chicken Salad that you use as a sandwich filing, I just use diced chicken breast, real mayo, S&P, and maybe a little minced celery fro crunch, maybe a few green onion tops if I have them.

For a big salad that happens to have chicken sitting on top, anything goes!

THIS IS MY SPECIAL RECIPE FOR CHICKEN SALAD
1 (3-pound) chicken
Salt and pepper
1 onion, quartered
2 celery stalks
1 cup chopped celery
4 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
2 teaspoons seasoning salt (suggested: Jane's mixed up Krazy salt)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon lemon-pepper seasoning
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 to 3 tablespoons chicken stock

Place the chicken along with the salt, pepper, onion, and celery stalks in a large stock pot. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer until the chicken is cooked through. Remove chicken from pot, cool, and remove skin and bones. Reserve the liquid. Dice the chicken and place in a large bowl. Add the chopped celery, eggs, seasoning salt, mayonnaise, lemon-pepper, pepper, and some reserved stock and mix well.

I wouldn't put lettuce "in" chicken salad. I'd put it on a chicken salad sandwich. for the best chicken salad use mayo instead of salad dressing. also celery, green onion stalks cut it little pieces, chicken, and mayo, a little salt and pepper. that's all.

It totally depends on your taste and how you want to serve it .like do you plan on making it for sandwiches? or are you serving it as a main course for a supper? stuffing a tomato with it or even yummier a pineapple?
for sandwiches i,d go with what you have.chop ingredients small.

for stuffing tomatos yes use, the tomatoe flesh in the mix.and make it on the savory side, mayo, dill weed, garlic powder, salt, pepper.

for serving with fruit add pineapple tid bits, sliced water chestnuts, use miracle whip as the dressing.or sweeten mayo with sugar disolved in a little cider vinegar.

for serving on a bed of lettuce add apples ,grapes, and walnuts. again use the sweeter dressing.
