Congratulations! You have your hands full.
Crate
Baby gates
ex-pens
Bitter Apple
Nature's Miracle

You puppy proof a house by removing things a puppy would like to chew on that you don't want the puppy to chew on. And you watch the puppy any time he is out.

Go to this website and download the free book on taking care of your new puppy:

Get that Shiba into a puppy kindergarten class that emphasizes effective socialization ASAP.

I'm jealous. Shiba Inu's aren't an easy dog, but they are so much fun!

SHIBA INU!! I've wanted one my whole life!!!
Congratulations!!! Show us a picture! lol

- You should buy toys
- a crate
- bitter apple (something you spray on things that you don't want your dog chewing on)
- A brush for your dog's fur
- Shampoo to bathe your dog with
- A collar and a lisence (in case your dog gets lost)
- A leash
- and of course the food and water.

You should probably get a book about how to take care of puppies and maybe it will tell you how to train it to do little nifty tricks!! Also make sure your puppy gets its necessary shots if you haven't already because if it doesn't your dog could become terribly ill.

Definately consider crate training even if you only do it during the first year will help with puppy proofing for when you are not home/asleep. Safe chew toys include kong - looks like 3 rubber balls stacked and centre is hollow for hiding treats inside (try peanut butter keeps them occupied for hours) careful of "edible chews" can upset stomach, or get stuck. Rope toys can damage gums and frayed ones are nightmare if swallowed. Tennis balls can destroy enamel on teeth.

If you go to PetSmart they have a puppy checklist. Just ask an employee for it. It will have everything you need on it. Make sure to get the puppy pads they really help with the potty training process. Get the collars that are adjustable they will grow with your puppy and last a little longer.
