I have anxiety problems, I guess...
But I got a Pom puppy a couple years ago, and he died of parvo the first week I got him... So after much worry I thought it was time that I could get another...
Well I just got another pom yesturday.. And all night he was up playing and eatting... And he was earlier this morning too..
Now he is sleeping sleepingggggg!!
I just thought pups were more playful then sleepy/
Should I be worried or is this normal...
He got his shots and everything, the vet said he is neg for parvo. But I know theres an incubation period...
I dont know if I could go on if another one of my pups get parvo...

Someone give me info please!

Our Chihuahua slept a lot, too, when he was a puppy. It's normal, pups need a lot of sleep.

When I googled your question, the site for the American Animal Hospital Association said "a puppy generally needs as much sleep as he can get." As long as he’s eating and drinking like usual and he's active and playful when awake, his sleep shouldn't be a problem. If he's napping, don't wake him unless you have to keep him on his eating and elimination schedule.

According to the Leerburg Kennel, young pups naturally sleep 15-18 hours a day. Unless your puppy is sleeping appreciably longer than that, I don’t think you have to worry. After all, growing up is a big job and it takes lots of sleep and good food (and lots of puppy-poop).

Puppies do sleep a lot, just like human babies. But also, remember that coming to your house is a huge change for him- he may be a bit bewildered, wondering where his Mom and siblings are. Give him some time to adjust. Let him rest.

He will still play a lot. I have a feeling you'll have many happy years together. Poms are delightful little dogs.

Parvo is a tough disease. I'm sorry you had to go through losing a dog that way. Since your new pup is so well cared for it is unlikely you'll have the same experience twice.

Congratulations on your new puppy!

I'm sry to hear about your past puppy experience, however every puppy is different. Most puppies are up and down up and down, in other words, playful for about a day...then sleeping the next. A puppy is like a baby very young and tired so if you tire it out, it will sleep. Don't worry to much just keep an eye on it and give it love. I myself had a puppy with parvo, giving it love and spending days in the hospital with it, it miraciously survived now living w/complications. Don't live in fear dear. hope this helped

oh no puppies are very sleepy babies!
they play so much then fall right back to sleep it's normal don't worry.
As long as they are eating and getting the right amount of water and are somewhat active after a nap it's normal. =]

If you do end up paying for pet insurance you may need to do a little research. You have to pay up front the cost of the insurance with most coverages. There are alot of difrent coverages out there - differing on price ranges.

Don't worry. My baby slept all the time. I found that when he was up I played with him so much until I would tire him out very quickly. His new smell will wear off and you'll see he will perk right up and then go take a nap.
My dog is 2 and still take frequent naps because their days are not like ours think about it the age 7 years to our one. Lots of sleep they need it.

You know puppies are much like babies early on ~ They do 3 things very well 1) eat 2) sleep & 3) poop.....
Remember its hard work being a puppy....He's still using a lot of energy to grow and mature...Its not going to happen over night...
But, if your still concerned you can call Petco and talk to someone there ~ I'm sure they would be happy to talk to you...
Make sure he's getting all the shots too..that may make a difference.

Dogs grow the most when they are sleeping, and we all know that puppies grow like weeds and tend to be very rowdy, and sleepy off and on. If he is acting laggy and tired for more than a week, I would be mildly worried. He is just tired and probably got his "days and nights" mixed up. ^_^ Don't worry, puppies are interesting huh?

Puppies are a lot like human babies in that they need a lot of sleep. As long as you have gotten him checked by the vet, you shouldn't be too worried, although I know that's a normal response after your loss. I'm sure your puppy is just tired!
Good luck.

Dogs sleep a lot, especially puppies, but if you're worried than go see your vet to be sure.

Then get pet health insurance just incase if you've got anxiety about it's health.
