They are not throwing up, no runny noses, no cough, just crankiness and high fever. The oldest is almost 2 and youngest 8 months. Both with fever around 102. Gave them Tylenol but fever hasn't came down. They are eating just fine but are extremely cranky. I'd take them to the doctor but can't until Monday, and they haven't eaten any peanut butter. Any suggestions?

I was just saying they haven't eaten any peanut butter so no one would ask if they did.

You can still call the MD; most md offices have an answering service where they will page the Nurse Practitioner to call you. You can also try webmd.com. The same thing actually happened to my son a few weeks ago. His fever went away after a day and a half, no other symptoms. Try to keep them comfortable; you can try giving them a lukewarm bath to get the fever down as well.

Well it could be the Influenza Type A or Strep Throat. Peanut butter would not cause a high fever.. that would be more like food poison symptoms. I actually had some of that peanut butter in the cabinet.. freaked out. But Type A flu is awful and there is no antibiotics to help it.. just has to run it's course. Hope all is well til Monday.. you can always call the ER and ask them for some advice. Good Luck.

A fever isn't a bad thing, just your body trying to fight the germs. If the fever gets too close to 104, I'd go to the emergency room, just in case. Other wise, they'll probably be okay with the fevers for a couple of days and possibly other syptoms showing up in the next day or two. My 3 and half year old woke up with the same 102 fever. He complained of a sore throat too, but your kids may be too young to tell you. He got a slight cough after two days of fever. But he's doing much better. Your kids will too. Just remember it's a natural thing for their bodies to do and all you can do is keep an eye on it. Good luck and hope they feel better soon.

I had the same thing happen to me, not my child, a couple months ago - I had a fever all day and felt very lethargic. The next morning - fever was gone and I was fine. I figured it was a virile (sp?) thing...

Yuo can check with the kid's pediatrician but they will probably advise to use tylenol to control the temp and let them know if the meds don't help.

If the temp was a little lower I'd think it was teething with the baby and the 2 yr molars with the older child.. but obviously weird to happen on the same day and 102 is a bit high for teething...

It could be rosella, it is a very high fever for a couple of days and a rash at the end. It is common in children under 2 and most kids will get it. When you gave them tylenol did you give it by age or weight? You can try to call the nurses hotline for any tips on bringing the fever down. Most of my friends kids have had rosella and it is scary but doesnt have many symptoms. I hope this is it, its easy in comparison to other problems.

The 2 year old can wait until Monday, but I would be concerned for the 8 m.o. The main thing is how they are acting, but the fact it hasn't come down even w/ Tylenol is worrisome.

I would call the ped's office to see if they have someone answering phones. Or many insurance companies have a nurse advice line. I would call.

Otherwise, most areas have a 7 day week Immediate Care centers.

Every once and awhile a child will come down with a fever and no other symptoms. It's important to watch them closely of course, but you probably don't have to worry too much. Fever isn't a bad thing... it's helps us fight off viruses and infections. Make sure they're getting lots of fluids, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're both fine by Sunday.

My son has had those same symptoms since Thurs. night.
We did go to the dr. on Friday. She told me if the fever was not
gone by Tuesday to bring him back. She said "it" is going around.
I am not sure what "it" is, but I wish it would go away. My son is
2 1/2 and after two days on Tylonol proclaimed this PM "That is GROSS. I no like that! " and will not take anymore.

Good luck! I feel for you w/ two grumpy kids, because my one
has been challenging!

my guess is an ear infection, all the symptoms are there. if it is, they will need antibiotics. not life threatening, but def uncomfortable, esp when lying down (or drinking a bottle). have they been tugging on an (or both) ear at all?
maybe you can try pushing the little boney part of the ear in and see if they wince or show any reaction.
