If it's a "great recipe" and it specifies using Miracle Whip, why would you change it?

You can change to mayo or sour cream the next time if you want to, but I'd respect your grandma and use her recipe as is, at least the first time.

Miracle Whip is just a fancy branded mayonaise

When I was growing up it was Miracle whip all the way. I didn't know what mayo was till after I got married and moved away so now it is almost all I use for mine. Unfortunately hubby doesn't like either so I make Chicken salad for him using a mixture of sour cream and yogurt.

If you like the taste of both Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip, then go with Mayonnaise which has a thicker consistency, where as Miracle Whip is thinner and will make it somewhat runny. However, Miracle Whip has way less fat than Mayonnaise. Therefore, you have both pros and cons to using either product. Happy Cooking!

I hate Miracle Whip.

Mayo only. And some sour cream at times. Some bacon bits aren't bad either.

Miracle Whip! That's what my Grandma used and she made the best potato salad in the world.

I like Mayonaise and mustard and the juice from a dill pickle jar as well as the pickles. Gret flavor and much more moist. My biggest complaint with most peoples potato salad is it's too blasted dry.

A lot of people have an aversion to Miracle Whip (in the same vein as Diet Coke with folks). If you can mask the aftertaste, it could be appealing to everyone but they've been trying to mask it for years now. I use a combo.
