Passage Leviticus 19:28:

28Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

This is what I understand about tattoos and holiness.

I am a Christian, have a half-sleeve and I don't think that tattoos are a sin at all. As a matter of fact, I'm going to get more. God looks at the heart of a man, not at the outter apperance. In the old testament it does say that, but it also says not to shave your beard! The old testament was the old law before Jesus came. The new testament is the new covenant with God and us. All God sees in a person is if they are covered by the blood of Jesus and if they are then that is what matters! Hope that helps!

While the Bible doesn't ever specifically say a tattoo is a sin, many people will argue that defacing your body (which is a sin) wold include tattoos. So, in that case, a tattoo of anything holy would be a sin, becasue God did not create you that way.

I do not believe that the word occurs in the Bible no matter the translation you use!

I do not know the rationale for naming it a sin.

I have seen certain tattoos that I consider idiocy and others that are very cute even pretty.

The problem is that it is quite permanent and perhaps a little
painful if you want to remove it?

Of course, certain imagery by itself may be considered obscene and sinful, and should be avoided, but that stands to reason.

The Bible says that marking yourself as a sign of posession is a sin. Getting tattoos is frequently not considered a sin. However, it depends on your own personal belief.
Also, anyone, religious or not, could get a tattoo of something holy and it not necessarily be a holy thing, so don't base it on that.
Go with your own personal belief, but remember, these things won't go away! :-D

I've never seen it in the bible that a tattoo is a sin.

I know it says our body is a temple and we should take care of it, but nothing specific about tattoos.

If they say tattoos are defiling of the body, then would hair dye, finger nail polish, being over weight, getting hurt (scarring), etc. also be sins?

Remember you are reading a link to the past and guide book for learning the best way to make life best for your future and the future of mankind.

It might be a bit more enlightening if you could read the language of the original Bible. Which is where Kings James got the information he translated, so his language was used to reason the old books meanings, and then wrote it in his peoples language.

Probably. It's still marking up your body. The subject of the tattoo doesn't matter, it's the idea of it. I also don't think it's a sin to get one. There's no Thou Shall Not Get a Tattoo commandment unless I'm missing something. I doubt God gets that up in arms about it. There's bigger things to worry about.

It's only a sin if you mark/tatoo yourself for the dead. (Jesus would not count as the dead because He rose again)

Leviticus 19:28
"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD."
King James Version
