A couple of days ago my mom was over visiting my boyfriend and I. She had to go pick up a few things she needed from the store so I let her borrow my car. When she was backing out of the driveway, she accidently ran over my cat. When she came and told us, I was really, really sad... but now I feel even more sad for my mom. She has been extremely upset about what happened. From the moment it happened until now she has barely stopped crying. I told her I know it was a accident and that I'm okay, but I know she still feels awful. She is such a sweet, caring, and loving person... I hate that this happened! I really miss my cat but I want my mom to know that I don't blame her for this at all! Is there anything else I can say to make her feel better? Should I just give her some time to get over it? I just can't stand to see her feeling so guilty, she is such a kind person.

That's really sad, I'm sorry for all of you- but time is probably the only thing that will let her get over something like that. I know if I was in her shoes, I'd be distraught for a while. But at least you're being understanding and supportive, and I'm sure that helps her a lot.

I honestly think I get more upset, at least in some cases, over an innocent animal being hurt than a human being hurt.

I accidentally ran over and killed a small dog which had run out in the street and was nipping at my rear wheel. I had slowed way down when I heard the dog barking, but after it all happened, I think it would have been much better if I had speeded up... At least I might have outrun the poor dog.

Anyway, I can still see the anguished faces of that family. There were several kids crying their eyes out. I felt like I was going to die of shame and sorrow, even though I wasn't really legally liable for killing that dog.

Your Mom will get over it, but she'll never really forget it, if she's like me.

I think here's the best answer I can think of: Just let her know once more it wasn't really her fault, it was just a bad accident.

Then, don't harp on it or mention it anymore. It'll take time for her sorrow to heal.

I hope this helps.

I am thinking your cat may have wanted to end it all......all 9 of them. I have never saw a cat stay sitting under a car when it starts up, or starts to move. Maybe it was already dead. Tell your mom the cat had psychlogical problems, or financial, or something and it just couldnt handle it anymore.

Get yourself another cat and tell your mom how much you are enjoying the new one. Her seeing that you have healed and are ok will help her cope and get over it.

I would go and give her a big long hug and tell her it's ok, that you love her and it is just a mistake.

just reassure her, your okay with it, and when your car died, it was meant to go... just wait, she will get over it, maybe she is over reacting so you know she feels bad.
