A couple of days ago my mom was over visiting my boyfriend and I. She had to go pick up a few things she needed from the store so I let her borrow my car. When she was backing out of the driveway, she accidently ran over my cat. When she came and told us, I was really, really sad... but now I feel even more sad for my mom. She has been extremely upset about what happened. From the moment it happened until now she has barely stopped crying. I told her I know it was a accident and that I'm okay, but I know she still feels awful. She is such a sweet, caring, and loving person... I hate that this happened! I really miss my cat but I want my mom to know that I don't blame her for this at all! Is there anything else I can say to make her feel better? Should I just give her some time to get over it? I just can't stand to see her feeling so guilty, she is such a kind person.

I am very sorry for your loss. It is going to be hard for your mom to get over it because of her caring nature, so know beforehand that it will probably take some time. If you need to give her some time, give it to her, otherwise, go do something fun to take your minds off of it. These are life's happenings, so show her that you're going to love her through thick and thin. Good luck!

It's very sad, but I think time will be the best healer... Give your mom a big hug and tell her you're okay but other than that it'll take time, she obviously feels bad for you and for the kitty. I'd be upset too if I ran over a cat, it'd take me a while to get over it even if I didn't even know the owner, so knowing you're okay will definitely help but it won't take the sadness completely away.

It's natural for your mom to feel really bad about what happened. Give her another few days to collect herself, and if she hasn't seemed to get any better, then remind her that even though you loved your cat very much, she is still more important to you, and that seeing her this depressed makes you sad too. She knows that you still love her, but this would still be a good time to remind her as often as you can before it just get awkward.

But remember, let her heal in her own time, which means don't keep bringing it up every time you see her. Don't worry, her life and yours will soon find a happy and smooth rhythm again.

Your mother is projecting her sadness about your living arrangements on to the equally sad situation about your cat. The death of the cat was just an excuse for her to openly cry about the fact that you are apparently living without the benefit of marriage with a man.

Any mother would feel the same.

Get a new cat and get a marriage license and her sadness will turn to joy!

I definitely think of i'm getting extra disappointed, a minimum of in particular situations, over an harmless animal being harm than a individual harm. I by twist of destiny ran over and killed a small canine which had run out interior the line and became nipping at my rear wheel. I had slowed way down as quickly as I heard the canine barking, yet after all of it happened, i think of it would have been lots extra ideal if I had accelerated... a minimum of i might have outrun the undesirable canine. besides, i can nevertheless see the anguished faces of that family individuals. there have been countless little ones crying their eyes out. I felt like i became going to die of shame and sorrow, even nonetheless I wasn't rather legally in charge for killing that canine. Your mom gets over it, yet she'll on no account rather forget approximately it, if she's like me. i think of this is the excellent answer i can think of of: only permit her understand as quickly as extra it wasn't rather her fault, it became basically a bad twist of destiny. Then, do no longer harp on it or point out it anymore. it will take time for her sorrow to heal. i desire this enables.

I think if you were to go out and get another cat, it'll show her that you are ok and have moved on. I don't want to sound like you are replacing your old cat, just think of it as getting a new pet. Maybe that will make your mom get over her grief.

Actually DON'T get another cat since this one was ran over due to owner negligence. If you get another cat and let it roam, it'll get squashed as well.

I'm sure you are feeling a heavy loss so I applaud you for putting your mom's feelings before yours. I've found when all else fails... laughter will fix it. Make the woman laugh. You know her well so you'll know what to do to hit her funny bone. It really will break the horrible funk she's feeling. Good luck, God bless and I'm sorry for your loss and for your sweet mama!
