She should be taken to the doctor. The lump on her neck is probably a lymph node which is swollen due to the illness. While this happens with most illnesses, if it is big enough to be seen, she should be seen by a physician.

if she has been sick and there's a lump on her neck this is normal, but maybe a sign needing more attention: lymph nodes in the neck swell up when you get sick (that's why dr's feel your neck). they help to fight illnesses by collecting the infection in one area of the body. she should see a dr. if she already did, and took an antibiotic, it may not have worked. not to worry, it is almost positively not something serious.

My son's lymph nodes swell like that when he is sick as well. I freaked the 1st time it happened. But I would go ahead and call the doctor and setup an appt. Could be tonsils too.. it really just depends on the symptoms. Good luck and hope she feels well soon.

Totally normal! After an illness, lymph nodes can enlarge and present on the neck, on the top of the head, or several other places. It shows you the baby's immune system is fighting the illness. Of course, see a doctor if you're truly concerned but as a mom of 2, I've seem the lumps many times!

I agree with the first poster, lymph nodes swell in response to illness, she probably just needs an antibiotic. Give your Doctor a call. Hope your little one feels better soon.

It is probably a lymphnode. you have them on the sides of your neck under your arms and behind your knees. Um you might need to get her seen by a doctor when i was ten my lymphnode on the side of my neck swole up like that and wouldnt go down and i ended up having to have a biopsy and it surgically removed. swelling and then going back down is normal from what i understand a lymphnode is a gland your body uses to produce antibodies to fight infection but if it does not go down when she gets better i would definitely get her seen by a doctor. I hope this helps.

She may have an infected lymph node. Better check with her dr. and make sure she's okay- he might give her antibiotics if it's a lymph node (and if she was on antibiotics for being sick she could need a different kind for the lymph node)

call your doctor and ask. She is probably fighting off some sort of infection, but may need a simple antibiotic to help her fend it off. ($4 for generic RX at WalMart, no biggie) This is quite common.

And you have the time, to sit here asking non-professionals about the health of your child, when you should be taking her to the doctor? Like, lumps are normal? Hello! Run to the doc now!
