I'm naturally blonde, and get blonde highlights occasionally. But i recently decided I would like to have black hair. Is there any safe way to do this, as I have heard dying your hair dark colors increases your risks of bladder cancer. And is there a safe brand to do touch ups too? Thank you.

I would be sure that black is what you want before you do it, or maybe you should try a med. brown first and then go to black after you get used to that. If you do it get it done professionally. Your hair can really look terrible if you try and do this yourself. It needs to be properly filled and then tinted back, if you just try and put black color on it it will look uneven and muddy/drab, and fade horribly. Not to mention that professional color is easy on your hair, and if or when you decide you want it lighter pro. color is at least easier to get removed out of your hair then the terrible metallic dyes from a grocery store. I've never heard of the bladder cancer thing-I'm sure that's not true. hope I helped : )

Well, i really don't think u can get bladder cancer because ur hair has nothing 2 do with ur bladder, so don't let that scare u. Dying ur hair can really damage ur hair. It can cause split ends 2. When ur hair gets split ends, u have 2 cut off the ends, 2 keep ur hair looking healthy. I'm naturally blonde as well, and i love my hair. From my own opinion, i would really keep the blonde hair, and not go 4 the black. Blonde, is actually very beautiful on most people. (When i say most ppl, i mean just about everyone.)

As a cosmetologist, I have never heard this rumor about bladder cancer. Just FYI, black is one of if not the hardest color to remove. Make sure you are really committed to black hair before you do it, and go to a salon. Color from a box is even harder to get out. Maybe you should try low lights first? Also, coloring your hair doesn't have to be bad. You just need to use the right products.

i am naturally blonde too and i started dying my hair black about 6 months ago. i touch it up about every 4 or 5 weeks. my hair still feels really soft and healthy, i haven't had any problems with it drying out or anything. but i recently asked at a salon about how to get it out and they said that if it's out of a box you just have to grow it out. so..yeah. make sure you really want it. i have really short hair and i plan out growing it out soon til i have about an inch and a half of roots showing then imma get that cut off and dye it pink. anyways, i have never ever heard of the whole bladder cancer thing so it's probably nothing. i like hydrience too. it makes my hair look really shiny and soft too.

This happened to me once. You should go to a wig shop and try on black wigs before you do this. I dyed it black when I went through my "Goth" stage. My skin is extremely light with pink and blue undertones. I looked horrible!

I ended up having to go to a professional who had to put bleach on my hair to get it out. Plus, my beautiful, more natural color was completely gone. I would never do it again. By the time they got done with the bleach and then dying it back to a lighter color, my hair was totally damaged.

And yes, I have read studies of women who use darker hair dyes develop cancer. But bladder wasn't mentioned as one of them.

the cancer thing is just ridiculous. hair dye works by opening the cuticle of the hair and depositing color, there is no way that will give you cancer. also, when done by a professional, the color will not touch your scalp as its standard procedure to stay 1/4 inch away from the root. it's really a better idea to stay with something that is more soft and natural like a dark brown and to be under the care of a professional.

I'm not sure abot the bladder cancer, talk to a doctor or someone. Dying your hair is bad for you hair though. It depends on your hair type, it could dry out, or you could get split ends easier.

You said that you get blonde highlights. Do you bleach your hair? Because I did that once and then used black dye out of a box and my hair turned purple. I liked it but it was very different. Good luck!

Be sure whatever you do that you test the dye before you use it on your whole head. I got a serious rash on my head from dying my hair. I have never heard of getting cancer from dying, it is probably another one of those scare the kids rumors.

Instead of black, I think you should go with dark color with redish tone like chesnut or dark brown~something without ammonia like Loreal's nature color or natural instinct. Black hair is too shocking, it'll wash out people with pale skin as well as people with tan
