For the past year or so, I've been getting really down. I started self-harming, and it got pretty out of control. I have recently been trying to do less of it, and I've been pretty succsessful.
But the thing is, lately, I've been feeling really really sad, but not only that, I'll get horribly angry to the point where I cry and take out my anger by hitting/punching things. But I also get really happy, too.
It's like there's no "in between." I'm either extremly happy, mad, sad, ect.
Do you think there could be anything wrong with me? Because this is getting tiring to deal with all the crazy emotions.
Thanks in advance!

Signs of depression can come in many forms, and given the fact that you are feeling like you are on a roller coaster of emotions may be a sign of depression. The good thing is you have the courage to speak up and speak out about your feelings, thats really important in finding a "cure" for what you are experiencing. I would suggest seeing your doctor first and explain how you feel, maybe he/she can offer a low dose drug that may help your situation OR they may be able to refer you to a therapist. Sometimes just talking about your feelings can bring out the real crux of your depression. Believe me, with all that is going on in this world its easy to become depressed...(just watch the news....). The most important thing is that you act, act now and do something about how you are feeling....DON'T (I repeat...) DON'T just sit there and not do anything, that could be the worse mistake you'll ever make.
Chin up, be positive and be pro-active ok? It WILL get better but only if you act on it ;-)

Get help. It could ba a million things.
1) Bp or BP II - closely related to manic depressive disorder
2) Borderline personality Disorder - main diff here is that unlike BP or BPII you are either hot or cold. With those other two you usually have an in between period of normalcy as you swing from happy to sad. With BPD it is all or nothing. Self mutilation is not unusual for any of the 3.
all these things are chemical imbalences in the brain but you may want to consider counseling as well. The anger could be a side issue
Help is out there. just got to get it
God bless

I feel sad for you I know how you feel, I think alot of people go through what your going through but never admit it. Self harm is often a way of releasing feel good hormone (endorphins) into your body that's why your doing it. You have also mentioned that you've been down for the past year...think back to a year ago and try to remember what stressor caused this, you could be dealing with Post Tramatic Stress Disorder or Manic Depression. I don't think it's manic because of the anger issues, I think you've gone through something that has really affecting you and you need to fiquire out what that was. This is something I recommend you do, once you think abit about what may be causing your mood swings please call a crisis line or a womens support group, or a counsellor who will help you through these scary times. Please also remember that winter gets us all down and it could be affecting your behaviour as well, so even though it's cold out get out in the sun or during a cloudy day and get some natural Vitamin D and some exercise, exercise really helps to relieve those pent up emotions, it sounds trite but it does help. But please remember your not alone in feeling this and there is so much help out there just go and get some, you will feel much better once you. I know everything will work out for you if you reach out and just ask for help, and remember this, your not the only person feeling like this alot of people feel like and do these things. So first step call a crisis line and talk, just get thing off your chest, then think about what may have started this and find a group of people in your city that YOU can relate to. And if you can get a counsellor. You should feel very proud of yourself for even writing this tonight good for you it's your first step to getting back to yourself. All the best to you.

Get help sweetie, before u hurt yourself or someone else. I have been there and it is a scary place. Unfortunately I did not see the problem for what it was until my son came along and I took it out on him. There is help available. Many mental health places will charge based on income if u have no insurace. I never paid a dime for the 4-5 years I was being treated. Your local social services agency should be able to refer you (United Way), I was refered by the Child Abuse Prevention Center.
This is not managable on your own. Please, please, please call someone. And pray, pray, pray...as I will do for you. God is our strength when we are weak. Read the poem "Footprints in the Sand" it lifted me up when I could not find Him anywhere.
Help is out there, seek and you will find it.
(Whatever u do don't shave your head!)

Hello Kaitly...It is very important that you seek professional help. A good psychiatrist can diagnose and treat you. By the symptoms you describe I think you may be Bipolar. About the hurting, it sounds like schizophrenia. All mental illnesses are caused by an imbalance in brain neurotrasmiters. The spiritual explanation is that the person has attached spirits that make them hurt themselves and be really depressed. Put yourself into good hands. Good luck! Argentox2@yahoo.com

You need to see either your own doctor, or see a psychiatrist. You are perfectly describing the symptoms of manic-depression or bi-polar personality disorder. This doesn't make you a horrible person, it just means you have a chemical imbalance in your body, and there are medicines out there that will help you feel a whole lot better and even out the highs and lows. Don't wait, please see someone soon!

It sounds like bipolar disorder, and the sooner you see a doctor and get it properly diagnosed, the better. There are effective medications, but you could also benefit from viewing: http://www.relax7.com/7.php and the 2 techniques in the last 6 blogs of Shan Eris at www.myspace.com

Your symptoms sound manic depressive. The mood swings are very high highs and very low lows. Seek the help of a psychiatrist, they will be able to diagnose your problem and prescribe medication and therapy. I posted a website below for you to click on. You may find something comparable to your feelings. Sure hope you feel better.

Yeap, you do need to talk to a doctor in the very least, if not some sort of psychiatrist as well. It sounds like you may have a bi-polar condition, do some research on that and see how much it applies to you.

You need to see a doctor and not continue to go through this state of extreme happiness/extreme sadness. There are medications that can help you. There's no reason to suffer when there is help to be had.
