There is no specific method given in scriptures for the collecting up of the offering. My pastor often varies it. Most common is the passing of the offering plates to collect it. At one time we had a box at the front of the church that was used for additional offerings to pay off the church mortgage. Other times, the Pastor will have the offering brought forward as an act of committing our finances (not just the offering, but the stewardship of all our finances) to God. So they are brought to the altar.

The method of collect them is not what is important. The faith and commitment connected with giving them is.

not for the actual front of the church but there are many that talk about offerings etc, e.g Moses sacrificing his son. If you're looking for info on offerings, check out the Old Testament and a concordance.

No.
Usually the pastor, preacher, minister, stands at or near the alter, which is generally at the front. Unfortunately many think this is where God hangs out.

You haven't been paying attention, have you. Jesus was the ultimate offering. The requirement has been fulfilled once and for all.
Oops, just read the question again - no, but it doesn't hurt and shows honor.

Well, it would be kind of like the boy with the loaves and the fishes wouldn't it? I mean he had to come from the crowd right?
