I'm not in favor of being cruel to children, however, at this point, it seems like "cold turkey" is the only way to go. I assume since you're asking here, you've tried everything along the lines of "reasoning". I'd say even if you have to endure 2 weeks of Hell, throw all the bottles and pacifiers away. I have a 4 year old and although I don't deal with that particular issue, I have found a trick that works for stopping other bad behavior. I tell him either "The Doctor said NO" or "I don't want to get in trouble with the police for letting you do that"! He has this unexplained respect for doctors and police plus it takes the blame off of me! Hope it works for you or you can find the strength to "just say no"!

He/She shouldn't have a bottle or a pacifier at age 4. Any child around age 2 can drink out of a sippy cup.
Pacifiers are for babies. This child could have dental problems as well from the extented use of these.

Teach your child that he/she is a big boy or girl and don't give into the whining.

OMG Why is your child four years old and still with a paci AND bottle. Is it the other g/parent? Paci should end like before 2 years and the bottle before the first year! Have you ever given the child a chance to learn to pacify him/herself or given a sippy cup?? This kind of stuff can mess up their teeth for life!

if he is 4 years old he is old enough to know the words yes and no you need to sit down and have a talk with him and tell him that bottles and pacifiers are for babies and he is not a baby anymore he is a big boy and take it away from him i'm sure he will cry but sometimes you have to break there hearts to do the right thing for them good luck

My little boy was 3 years old before he gave up his bottle.
We cut the top of the nipple off and told him that it was broken and needed to be thrown away. We encouraged him by telling him that he was a "big boy" and that bottles are for babies.

The pacifier (my mom used it on me) we dipped it in pickle juice and he never wanted it again.

Either way encourage him to be a big boy or girl and that they're both for babies.

that kid is old enough to be in pre school. i have 4 girls .. 2 3 5 6. none of my kids had a bottle past a year. none had a pacifer past 4 months. you really need to talk to grandparents and let then know that it isnt in the best interest of your child to be having a bottle at 4 years old.. your kid is going to have serious issues next year when he has to go to kindergarden

take it away. The child is WAY to old for either of those. They should be eating food by now, and drinking from a regular cup/glass.

A pacifer could damage their teeth now.

oh my gosh! At four he should not have a paci or bottle!! I think you are going to have to let him cry and not give in to him and then you are going to have to have a strict talk with other grandparents as to not allow that!

Just take it away. That's it. That child is way too old for either of those things and at this point could damage his teeth.

Everyone is right, at 4 yrs old he should be weaned from both. I had to wean my daughter from her "binky" at 2 yrs old because she was chewing through them. How is this little guy not doing that already??
