My hubby has his stretched too. I hate snuggling with him, because of the smell. He has lucite (the hard plastic) in.
The only time they smell better is after a shower.
It is not what he is using to clean them. Have him switch cleaners to see if it helps, but don't tell him to stop using soap. (Never tell a guy to stop using soap, lol.)
It's just 'cause he is a guy and perspires more than a female. We moisturize and pamper our hair, face and skin. Guys don't do that.
Hope this helps.

I used to have my ears gauged and one of the reasons why I took them out is because of the smell. I had them gauged for about a year to a 2 and then, right when I got to a 0, it was disgusting. I had the 0's in for about 3 months and no matter what I did, they still smelled. I was to the point to where I was cleaning them 3 times a day with rubbing alcohol, and it still didn't work. Then, when I put my 2's back in, it was too late. They still smelled. I think your best bet is to take them out, or just wait a little longer. Maybe after a little longer, they'll eventually heal completely and stop smelling.

Antibacterial soap will not help, only dry out his ears. It's common for stretched piercings to smell a bit. He needs to get better quality jewelry, such as stainless steel or titanium. Organics and acrylic won't help the smell, and may make it worse. Tell him to clean them (normal soap will do since they're healed) every time he has a shower. They will always smell if they're not kept clean, but proper piercing hygine will take care of most of it.

antibacterial soap is BAD. it dries out healing skin/piercings. the smell is just because the skin is healing, my gauged ears smell the same way sometimes; theres nothing wrong with it, hes just not cleaning them properly. he should try to use a cleanser like satin, provol, or hibiclens. they can all probably be found at your local drug store. good luck, hope it helps! just make sure they are cleaned regularly.

my boyfriend heard that if you use plugs mad out of bone they are porous and breath better, thus cutting back on that smell. he said they can be pricey though.
