you might unknowingly be giving off body language that is making him apprehensive to take your hand, or along the same lines - you're maybe not giving off body language that shows that you're open to him taking your hand.

I can say that for me personally, i'm not a shy person, but I am very reserved - and unless I am comfortable with the notion that the girl would be comfortable with me to take her hand - i simply won't, because i wouldn't want to risk any mutual level of discomfort thereafter. That may sound silly, but there are a lot of guys that think exactly the same way that i do - heck, we're not all "jump on the women cavemen" sorts - heheheh.

what i would suggest is this. make sure this gentleman knows that you are interested in him. make eye contact, laugh at his jokes (nothing over the top), lightly touch him on the hand, arm, etc, if he touches you in the same manner - be sure not to flinch or he'll mistake that for you being uncomfortable with him, when you guys walk, you want to walk close enough to him that your lightly brushing up against one another at times, even have your hand swing in towards him, these will give him the hints he needs to know that you're comfortable and looking for him to make the next move.

This is what you should do you will get over the fact of being nervous and scared once you hold his hand right?. So if he tries to reach your hand reach over for his. when your hands touch you will feel much happier and will be over the fact of being scared. if this doesn't work then tell him you are having trouble you can work this out together he might have the solution to this if you tell him you are scared. Once your hands touch you will feel allot better and more relaxed so gradually move your hand closer to his as he moves his you can get them to touch with no problem at all try it.
