What is going on with our Health Care in the States? Why is it so messed up for the masses?

If you got HMO, your screwed. If you have Medicare/Medical/Medicade, your screwed. PPO, NPO, it's all junk and a big waste of money. So inefficient. How horrible it is to live in America right now. And why isn't anything even being done about this. This has been an issue for decades now.

The #1 problem : ABUSE OF THE ER SYSTEMS.

The biggest problem right now is new immigrants and homeless people using ERs as their personal clinics for any little non- emergency problem. Then they all have medicaid or medical assistance, so we (the hardworking taxpayer) pay for their 2,000$ ER bill for their blister on their foot (which they would take an ambulance to the ER for). This then makes our insurance rates skyrocket. I see this day in and day out, as well as recognize many names in the ER of people who use the ER at least once a week for anything wrong with them. ( I work in a hospital in administration doing ER chart coding) This is incredibly frustrating, but the hospital cannot turn anyone away for any reason, so they are treated in the ER where care costs much more than in a clinic. I really do not see an end in site, or a solution for this problem.

I was getting a major kick out of reading some of the hyped out garbage that has been posted on this question -- and can not let it stand !!! So, it's alright that we have Federal regulations on such stuff as Transportation and commerce at every level in the world and that the Feds have taken this "security" thing to a level of obsurdity and we regulate the ingrediants in food stuffs to insure no one makes a claim that overstates the "fat" content ---
BUT-- you don't want to have the Feds involved in the oversight of a BUSINESS that has already proven time and time again that the ONLY thing that they care about is the bottom line to the point of actually costing some 17,000 Americans their very LIVES each year from the "failures" in the system that we have !!!

Republican and Neocons can take the absolute BLAME for the FACT that there is no such thing as an affordable health care plan for the masses at this very point in time BECAUSE they roadblocked all moves toward that end during the Clinton administration !!! This was done under the watchful eye of the AMA and all of the other "medical care specialists" who dumped MAJOR MONEY into the "stop this legislation" game---because it would have forced them to give quality care at an affordable price !!! And, like I said before it is the MONEY and not the CARE that is at the focus of the Neocon agenda here--- with every report on this subject coming back saying that with quality --EARLY care (people tend to get care earlier IN a health situation when it is affordable) There is not NEARLY so many cases of things getting to MAJOR SERIOUS in nature ---at which point the government takes a MUCH BIGGER HIT because people at this point are forced to go the route of INDIGENT CARE which is a big added expense to the Fed's expenditures !!

Now, refute this if you can !!!!
I might also point out that -- you can blame insurance companies for some of this --- BUT--- check out WHO the MAJOR stock holders are in a lot of these companies ---IT IS DOCTORS !!!! This a a FACT--- they are taking the profits from BOTH ENDS AGAINST THE MIDDLE---and ALL WITHOUT FEDERAL OVERSIGHT !! JUST THE WAY THEY LIKE IT !!!!!!!!

Ultimately, health is one of the very few things
that people cannot afford to forsake - so they
are guarenteed if at all possible to purchase
the product, whatever the product is, if they
possibly can.

This makes it a seller's market. However,
in the United States, the seller is the
insurance companies, not the doctors, etc.

By adding a layer between consumer and
producer, the "overhead" of the system
is increased. Ultimately, if there were no
insurance companies and people paid what
they could or didn't get the services when they
couldn't pay, the costs would be much lower.

The advantage of socialize medicine is that
it replaces the insurance companies with
a company (the government) which isn't using
profit as its primary motive.

By the way, before you start believing NEO-Cons
in saying that this wreaks of socialism which will
bring about the end of our perfect country, have
a good hard look at what other countries have
done and what their successes and failures were.

The only viable anti-socialized medicine argument
that I have seen is that the improvements in
medical technology and research across the world
are essentially due to the American health care system
paying for them.

If we weren't seeing so much innovation in Europe
and Asia, that might almost be believable.

Most US Doctors believe the system will continue
to founder until it is replaced by socialized medicine.

I know it isn't what the Neo-cons want to believe,
but they also wanted to believe that the word
"Entitlement" would scare people.

People are smarter than that.

The government won't leave it alone. Everything the federal and state government gets involved with seems to ultimately to get worse and more expensive and more frustrating in the long run.
