I've had ITBS problems for quite some time. I had an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon who recommended an at home stretching program which has really helped a lot. He also prescribed orthotics which adjusted the way I ran. My suggestion would be to do the same as an orthopedic surgeon can assess the shoes you're wearing, perhaps suggest orthotics for you and show you the stretching that aids in helping the pain.

I have also added a link that explains some of the stretching for ITBS. Your best bet would be to get a medical opinion just to simplify the process; rather than wasting time and money on different shoes, inserts, etc. Good luck to you!

You CAN beat ITBS!!
Like you, I have had this pain in my knee (sometimes in both knees!). I've spend a number of hours searching some of the primary Internet search engines, so you don't have to.

Let me start off by saying that I have NO FORMAL MEDICAL TRAINING. I’m simply someone who suffered through ITBS off and on for 7 years and talked with a lot of people about it. If you think you might have ITBS, I strongly recommend you get a formal evaluation by a doctor who specializes in Sports Medicine or a Physical Therapist.
or see a doc but i had that problem n ask my coach what to do he said put ice on it on for 30Min's and off for 30Min's

I have had this...and it stinks. The way I got through it was to do daily leg lifts & leg curls (with ankle weight only - light weight lots of repetitions). I also took some Glucosamine / Chondrotin and changed out my shoes (more cushioning). I gradually started back...elliptical...treadmill...than road running. I've done 6 marathons since. Hang in there & best of luck!

Yes, I had it last October in my right knee. I went to three Orthopedic doctors and all they did was prescribe pain killers. The last one I went to said we are going to get you out there running again and she sent me to a Physical Therapist. She was very good she measured my legs and said most people have one leg shorter than the other about 1/4 of an inch; but yours is about 5/8. She put a lift in my right shoe and it started to get better. When I went back in for the next visit she said one of my hip bones was higher than the other. She wanted me to come back and see her partner; she was good in feet and knees, and his speciality was back and hips. So I went back to him and he moved my hip bone back in place and measured my legs and said throw the lift away you legs are now the same length. He said my hip bone had curved in. Anyway, I'm running again getting about 7 miles in and doing much better.

looks like u need better shoes for starters.. speak to physio orthodotics etc... u might have done some internal injuries. have u tried cycling for cardio ?? or eliptical bike... other alternatives to running, less strain on the knee... start packing ice packs on the knee as soon as it hurts... basically time will heal..
