Bite 'um back!

2007-02-24 13:22:40 · answer #1 · answered by Yankee Dude 6 · 5 0

It depends on the severity of and if there was a reason behind the bite. If the dog was protecting his territory, or had reason to believe he was, then no, there's absolutely no reason to do anything to the dog.

If the owner made the dog mean so that it bit seriously for no reason, then I personally, as a dog-lover, think the dog should be put down and the owner prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I get very mad at people who mistreat dogs and make them so aggressive that they bite but once a dog is mean, there's not much going back. There are a few ways to try and remedy this and sometimes they do work and then everyone happy. A mean dog is not a happy dog either way. They generally are aggressive because they are afraid and that's no fair to the dog. There is just simply nothing that can be done with a mean dog. There are no dog-prisons. The concept simply doesn't work. What we can do, though, is make it so that the owner cannot do this to any other animal and punish him for the death of the dog.

Why did the dog bite ??- usually a fault of a human along the line -

Theres fear biting , agressive biting , protective biting

Dogs react to how they have been trained ( if at all) & their enviroment

Sorry to say but alot of people shouldn't be around animals they are totally clueless ...and they lean over a dog to just say'hi'& the dog bits theirnose or what ever - bending over a dog / animal is a threat - so rightfully so the persons bitten. I'm not saying its ok for such things to happen but Humans who don't understand animals specifically dogs should be given classes how to behave with them or stay away from them.

If some kid was poking me in the eye I'd bite them too!

Alot of Humans
take animals for granted & feel they can do what ever they please to them - poke them, abuse/beat them , tease them, & the list is endless.

As to what to do with the dog - depending on how severe things are - I'd A) not put the dog in the same or similar situation EVER again
B) ask what happend to witnesses of the even

c) Never allow who ever was bitten near your dog again

d) get professional behaviorist to help & work with the dog if its serious

e) get the dog placed in a better home if its in an abusive one

f) if most likely it will do it again - find a home that it would never be given thesame or similar situation again ( dog rescue possibility)

g) sadly some dogs are put down if they are unable to rehabilitate them :(

Well, I have very strong opinions on this topic. I don't wish
to affend anyone, but I don't tolerate dogs that bite. A larger
dog can kill, and even small dogs can do serious damage.
I think myself that the dog should be put down. The owner
should be fined big time and forbidden to own another pet.
I know that sounds harsh, but many children have been killed
because of dogs that bite.

Aggressive behaviour is often taught to dogs, and the owners
sometimes do it on purpose. I have dogs and I never allow mine
to pull anything from my hands like food or toys. Play time is
about having fun and them getting exercise, not letting them
become aggressive. Pups do bite and that can be broken
easily, but in general I have to say that there is no excuse for
an owner to have a dog that bites. Get rid of it or have it put
down.

I had a dog, who was very aggressive. He was a small dog
and I noticed that he kept trying to bite me, and he would
snarl and snap at me. We tried everything, we even
bought a shock collar, and that worked for a little while but
than one day he bite me hard on my ankle and I couldn't even
grab him to put him in his cage, he just kept snarling and it
was a terrible experience. We got rid of him. We gave him
to a friend who didn't have a pet, and we told him about the
dog bitting me, but he took him anyway. The dog is very
happy now and to my knowledge has not bitten anyone since.

I just think that if the problem can't be solved, that something
serious has to be considered. In my case we had no choice
but to get rid of the dog, cause there are alot of kids around
where we live.

well... when a dog bites you contact the owner then see what they say and if the dog bites again call the dog shelter and the dog may have to get put down depending on the cut

It depends on why they bite, if it's a random act of violence...like they get out and bite the neighbor they should be put down. But if they are defending their owner then I see nothing wrong with it. I have a very friendly collie, but if someone tried to hurt me or my children she'd bite their arm off.

Have them checked out with the vet, there could be something like a tumor that causes aggression like that. If not, there could be something in the dog's past, like abuse, that's causing that to happen. Keep the dog muzzled when in public to be on the safe side. There are also places that offer behavioral training for animals. They might be able to help as well.

It really depends on why the dog bit.

If somebody attacked a dog and the dog bit
back, well, then its clearly the person's fault.

However, in most cases, non-protection
dogs are expected not to bite and will
be euthanized if they do.

Its all depends on the individual situation, was the dog provoked ? The owners should be liable in most cases or parents not supervising kids around dogs.

FIRST MAKE THE OWNERS RESPONSIBLE AND IF THE DOG IS VICIOUS THAN THE DOG SHOULD BY ALL MEANS BE PUT DOWN.BUT I THINK THE OWNERS SHOULD KNOW BETTER AND THE LAWS BE MORE STRICTER THAN THEY ARE NOW.NOT ALL DOGS ARE MEAN WHEN THEY BITE THERE ARE REASONS WHY THEY BITE..AND THE OWNERS NEED TO TAKE MORE RESPONSIBILITY ABOUT WHY THEY ARE ALLOWING THERE DOGS TO BITE PEOPLE OR OTHER ANIMALS...
