Sadly, daycare. There is an on-site program at her school, and so she never leaves campus (the biggest plus). I have gotten to know and trust the daycare manager/teacher, and know she's in good hands. When I get there, her homework has been started, she's had a snack, and she's played around outside for 30-60 minutes.
I would recommend looking for a similar program in your area, since you don't have any friends/family that you can trust nearby. Good luck to you.

I go to school full time, my oldest is out of school at 3 and I have a 4yr old at the house. Oh yeah I also work and so does my husband.
My husband works evening hours 4-12 or somewhere in between, and he gets my daughter off to school and he stays home with the little one while I am in school and when I am at work. I feel that the afterschool program is a way for me to give out more money that I need to. Maybe your wife should work part time. I do. It helps. We have family around (his family) but no one helps. We do it all by ourselves. No child care if possible.

Try to find a reliable/responsible teenager to get your kid after school and get them to babysit until you come home. A going rate for teenagers is about $6-$7 and hour. One of you may also try to find a job where you go in earlier and get out earlier so you don't have to pay so much. It seems that your wife doens't have a job, have her try to find one with this criteria.
You could also look into the Boys and Girls Club, from what I understand- they are really cheap or free.

My mom used to work from 4:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. so she could take my sister and me to school and pick us up after. My dad got out of work at 3:30, so we'd only be home alone for about an hour. Now since we can both drive, she works first shift and she's home when we are.

The schools where I am have after school care but the cost is relatively low. I think it's $180 a month which is cheap!

I use an after school program that you register the children for it and you only call when you need it. I dont send my daughter everyday after because I am not working and my husband is. Its hard because we just moved here and dont have the support either.

Just either go to your childs school's front office and talk to the lady there. Or if your really ticked you can call the school board president.
(take this from a 5th grader who did the after school thing)

I'm lucky. My son's school has an after school program that is only $4.00 per hour. Usually only costs me about $50 a week.
