I want to lose weight and I am planning on starting a new excercise routine that involves mainly cardio along with some light weight training. But my main problem is what I eat. I do good in the morning and at lunch. I'll eat healthy all day untill I get home. Then I tend to over eat. even if its not junk food I'll eat too much of something healthy. What are some ways to help me eat only when I'm hungry and not just board?

I used to over eat...basically because I was bored. What I do now after losing all my weight is if I feel the need to eat, I grab a bottled water. I drink it and 10 out of 10 times, it takes away my craving. I also pop in a piece of sugarless gum. Works every time. Good luck with your exercise program

Well, I'm the opposite, I tend to overeat during the day vs at night. This is what has helped me: Drink lots of water -keeps you feeling full and your mouth busy, sparkling water is better. Stay busy. You're less likely to eat when you're involved in doing something. Hoodia seems to be an ok appetite suppressant without the nasty side effects of stimulant-based appetite suppresants. The exercise will help a lot - you will burn extra calories. Make sure you get enough protein and "good" fat - it will keep you feeling satified longer than low fat, high carbohydrate foods. Eat slowly and try to concentrate on when your body signals that it's full. Experiment with eating several small meals throughout the day -if you don't keep your body fueled throughout the day, it might trigger the hunger response at night. Keep a food journal and track everything you eat - you will be amazed! There are several online sites like fitday that will help you with this. Above all, be patient. You didn't gain it all at once and it takes just as long or longer to lose it. Good Luck!!

It sounds like you might be a binge eater. Do any of the following symptoms seem familiar?

- periodically does not exercise control over consumption of food
- eats an unusually large amount of food at one time, like a whole pizza
- eats much more quickly during binge episodes than during normal eating episodes
- eats until physically uncomfortable
- eats large amounts of food, even when they are not really hungry
- always eats alone during binge eating episodes, in order to avoid discovery of the disorder
- often eats alone during periods of normal eating, owing to feelings of embarrassment about food
- feels disgusted, depressed, or guilty after binge eating

"It's an expressive disorder - that is, the disorder is an expression of a deeper, psychological problem." Experience has taught me that this can't be cured with a diet or pill. It's classified as an eating disorder, so avoidance is not really an effective way to eliminate your unhealthy habits.Talk to a therapist or counselor. It's probably the most effective treatment for this disorder, and can help you stop internalizing stress with food. Also a lot of people have found that a combination of therapy and the right anti-depressants significantly eliminates their desires to binge.

If you feel that you can relate, don't be afraid or embarrassed to get help. I've wasted so much of life depressed and hopeless because of my own eating disorder, that I urge you to reach out to a trusted friend or family member and get the proper medical care asap.

Good luck.

Sounds like you are bored at home. Keep track of what you are eating and why you are eating and what mood you are in when you are overeating. Keep a glass or bottle of water handy with you when you are at home. It will fine to have several glasses of water throughout the house. When you feel that you have the need to stick something unhealthy in your mouth grab a glass of water and drink that instead.

Or if it is a matter of keeping your hands busy. Maybe you should do something like knit, or crochet or even find a new hobby to do while you are at home. Keeep your mind off of the food and you will be surprised at how much more weight you will lose.

Get involved with more activities if your eating just because your bored it means you don't have enough to do. Maybe get into sports that will cover the exercise and keep your mind off eating. Or you could read a book, join a club, get involved in things going on at church I know there's always some sort of activity going on at church. Maybe start a garden or something. There's so many things to keep you from getting bored and getting to that eating while your bored place. Just get more involved and then you won't have enough time to be bored.

first, do not buy junk food. this way, you will not be tempted to eat it, and binge. Also, eat very slowly. It takes 20-30 minutes for your stomach to realize you are full. If you feel like binging, count to 100 and ask yourself if you really want that food. Try going for a quick walk. Get out of the kitchen, and you wont eat too much. Also, brush your teeth after every meal because food tastes nasty after you brush your teeth. You should also try eating sugar free gum or sugar free mints. good luck!

I have heard that BRUSHING YOUR TEETH helps keep you from eating when you are not really hungry. You won't want to dirty up those sparkliing pearly whites! Good luck!

I just started on Weight Watchers this last week. I just eat breakfast and lunch moderately and it leaves me enough points to have a good dinner plus a snack later, so it is not cheating or overdoing it! Plus it allows you to still be able to eat out and still lose weight. So far it has not been hard at all.

Well,Have a hobby and when you are bored,do that thing you do instead of eating. Or talk on the phone,or go outside to a park or somewhere relaxing. Also if you really want one last idea, watch a violent movie or something disgusting like a surgery on tv. You wont want to eat while looking at someone being cut open.At least I dont.

once you actually start your new exercise routine you wont near as apt to overeat as you are now I used to have the same problem, now that I go and work out at the gym on a regular basis I no longer feel as hungry or have the desire to overeat as I used to.

My downfall used to be chips, I would end up going through one whole bag in one night.......now I simply don't buy any chips when I go to the grocery store.....if the junk is not in your house your a lot less likely to eat it
