in an effort to try and change everything about them?

Years later they ask that person why they dont do this and that anymore like they used to after they've already changed them into something else?

Why dont people just date someone that is already like what they want?

Because women love a relationship full of unnecessary pain, anguish, and excuses to fight. I don't know WHY, but they just can't seem to help themselves. Men get into the same situtations because we're dumb, impatient, and horny.

You cannot change someone else you can only change yourself.
People are attracted to each other for all kinds of reasons and at first all the good stuff you like is far outweighed by the annoying stuff. In some instances the things you found cute and quirky you now find unbearable.
But it isn't a choice or a plan

When most people begin dating, they are too young to know what they want. It's the 2nd stage of adulthood when a person usually has a good idea about what they want. That is why early year relationships are more prone to break-up than relationships that happen later. (Late 20's and beyond)

Because they can't find someone like themselves...and sometimes two like people hate each other because they're too a like...

I say...date and marry someone that could be your best friend...that you would tell anything to, not someone that you think is cute, or smart...but someone that you could hide away with and never see anyone else ever again and be happy with.

Some people do as you describe, and sometimes it's done because they can't find someone who is just like they want so they find someone who "will do" and they try to mold that person into someone they'd really like to be with.

Thankfully a lot of people don't do that, and will either accept or reject us for who we are, without attempts to make us into who they want us to be.

maybe it goes back to that old saying that it is easier to see the flaws in others than it is to see them in yourself. maybe it is easier to see the potential in others also. they mold you into the person they really want to be. and how is that their fault if you let them? insecurity in yourself would lead you to allow someone to mold you, your fear that you can do no better or aren't loveable. is that their fault for seizing the moment and being a little creative.
I don't think people seek others out to change them, it's like you sense the person is insecure and it serves a need for the both of you, one to control and one to be controlled. it's not like preying on the weak, it's like feedback in a sense, your personality says I am this way and they offer feedback that says it's ok to be that way because that is what I like. your premise is they go about looking for someone to change. I don't think it happens that way.
I think the two people are drawn to each other like a moth to a light.

good question. I think its because first off there is an attraction to someone different from you. You might think "wow theyre different" so i guess people think thats cool..Then after u develop the attraction..you want to have some things in common so ur not completely different. thats what i think.
