It depends on the laws of the state you live in, and the policies of the department where the jail is located at. I would imagine only trustees would have a guitar, or access to a guitar. But other prisoners.........no way. It would be too easy for them to use it as a weapon or commit suicide.

Most likely not. There is a U.S. Supreme court case that gave corrections a rule of what is deemed acceptable vs. violations of security. This law definately applies and no guitars unless your in a special prison or jail (e.g. one for the celebrities). It is a security risk; not even "trustees" are really trustable enough. Besides that, things can be smuggled into an institution inside a guitar. No institution (jail or otherwise) worth their salt will let someone have a guitar inside. (Considering that most don't even let deputies carry guns)
