I am trying to find out which version of this Albert Einstein quote is correct:

"Imagination is more important than knowledge."
"Imagination is more important than intelligence."

I have seen both different versions in educational material and online so I was wondering which quote is more likely the genuine version (closer to what he said or wrote verbatim).

If someone could clarify this for me I would really appreciate it!

it is: "Imagination is more important than knowledge."

Interesting. Lots of "quote pages" provided but I see no source.

One citation is a 1929 "Saturday Evening Post" interview, this is from the book "The Quote Verifier".

It is from his essay Albert Einstein, Cosmic Religion with other Opinions and Aphorisms. [By] Albert Einstein. New York:
Covici Friede, 1931. Pp. 109. The quote is on page 97.

"When the eclipse of 1919 confirmed my intuition, I was not in the least surprised. In fact, I would have been astonished had it turned out otherwise. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited whereas Imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution."

I think mueller_l is correct. On the site below, I found it as part of a longer quote: "I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge.
Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."
--Albert Einstein

"Imagination is more important than knowledge." - Albert Einstein
This is the original version

Here is another one worth mentioning:

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
