Light colors will almost always give the room the appearance of being larger than it is, and need less lightng to be bright.
However they do show dirt sooner.
The in colours right now for living rooms are believe it or not
maroon/burgendy and subdued greens. leaning more toward olive.
Good painting

Ivy greens are in style now. I am also thinking about painting my family room in a tan color and using ivy green and red as my accent colors. I have always been partial to earth tones. If you are in to the cool colors, the aqua/turqoise is in and you could use brown with that also. Hope this helps.

I think you should paint it white or off white then do your fav color as a feature wall. so when you are over the color you dont have to re paint the whole room just the feature wall. you could change it with the seasons.

I have creme brule from Home Depot in mine. We just painted my mothers a couple shades lighter of a tan. My last house I had gorgia beach with one wall a garnet and another sage. Those colors are in right now, as well as chocolate and ice blue. orange and brown are also nice together. My living room is sage, garnet, browns, and touches of gold and black. Works well.

Below is a link to where you can read about color forecasting for the next decade, etc. Be careful not to pick something that is too trendy though, or your room will look outdated in no time.

From what I can tell on these decorating shows, Almond is a nice warm inviting color.

don't paint what is "in" right now. it's a big job, i don't care what anyone says. took me 3 days to do my living/dining room along with al the trim. i chose Ralph Lauren Crabapple and am happy with it.
