Maybe not a "give up" but, an attempt to watch more closely for inpatience, jealousy, misplaced anger, greed etc. You get my drift I bet. This is something that I am trying to do.

A friend of mine said he was giving up "giving up stuff" for lent. I thought that was clever answer, though not quite what I would suppose God has in mind. Lent is meant to be much like fasting, in that you are to give up something you normally take for granted to focus on the things that really matter, more specifically, your relationship (or lack thereof) with God.

I also pondered on what I should give up for lent but then our priest told me on Ash wednessday that lent is not just about giving up something but it is also about becoming a better person. He said for lent instead of giving up something do something extra like saying hello to every one you work with or sit down with someone sitting alone in the cafetaria at school. Hopefully this helps.

Look at your bad habits.

Are you cynical?
Are you sarcastic?
Do you gossip?

Find the one bad habit that hurts your relationship with God the most.

Work on that bad habit during Lent and then when Lent is over keep working on it.

With love in Christ.

Try something simple.
Like.
Cookies?
Nothing to broad because some people really crack.
Like some of my friend give up sweets but crack after 3 days.
With something specific like cookies you can fufill ur worship.
Pick something specific.

you can fast things that you love to eat, ie-potato chips, candy, burgers, fries, pizza etc.; habits, ie-nail biting, smoking, drinking, cussing etc.; things you really like to do, ie-going to the movies, playing on play station or whatever game thing you have, etc.;
or instead of spending your free time hanging out with friends or staying at home and doing nothing, volunteer at a hospital, civic center, nursing home, etc.

Something you like. For example, chocolate or meat. You also can change something in your personality that you think is not Christian. There are many things you can do.
