Some of these people shouldn't even be reading these questions, let alone answering them! Fine hair is the definition used to describe each individual hair strand. You can have fine hair and still have thick hair, meaning you have a shitload of fine hair. Fine, medium, and coarse are based on each hair strand itself. Thin, medium, and thick refers to the amount of hair you have total on your head. Each individual hair strand has layers and layers of microscopic materials,(cortex, medulla, and cuticle), that make up the strand. Don't quote me on this but it goes something like this...7-9 layers = fine, 9-11 layers=medium, 11-13 layers=coarse. There are a few benefits to having fine hair. Easier to style, holds better, and lightens more levels than coarser hair. Disadvantages are not enough volume and can break easily

your hair is very brittle and hard to hold curl and will break easy. You have to extra careful with fine hair. Cutting it in layers makes it look fuller and helps it from breakage

generally "fine hair" is hair that is very thin and sensitive. straight is another characteristic found in fine hair. it is sensitive to things such as light, cholorine in the water, and such. not all fine hair is sensitive, but more times than not it is. it is kind of "stringy" and there isn't very much of it.
