Ah, the age-old question: why do bad things happen to good people? There is no satifactory answer, but here are a few thoughts. My faith teaches that one of the most important gifts God gives His children is the power of choice. We can't learn without the abilty to chose for ourselves and mess up and correct ourselves and get better. Unfortunately, this means some people will choose wrong, and this often hurts those who don't deserve to be hurt. My faith additionally teaches that through Jesus Christ, all hurts can be healed, and that in the hereafter, God's perfect justice and mercy will cover all.

Read the Book of Job in the Old Testament, 2 Nephi 2 in the Book of Mormon, and if you're feeling really brave, Holy the Firm by Annie Dillard.

Why did God make you ask that question?

The fundamental belief of Jews and Christians is that God and his creation are separate. God may be perfect but his creation is separate from him. It was created with free will, the ability to choose God's way or any other way that enters our minds.

God's hates rapes, murders, wars, etc. But part of creation is to have free will. The only way to prevent evil choices is to take away free will which would harm creation. So God has given human society the ability (and instruction) to arrest rapists, murderers, war mongers, etc. But they do this only if they choose.

God's dilemma is presented in Matthew 13:24-30. The "Kingdom of heaven" means the rule of God over the earth.

Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. "The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?' "'An enemy did this,' he replied. "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?' "'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.'"

So, evil is growing in this world and God would remove it is it would not harm the good. But he will wait until it is time to bring the good home to him before he can deal with the evil.

If you program a robot to love, is it really love? If you program that robot to do right, is it then righteous? Of course not. For humans to choose love and righteousness, they must have the option not to. The standard Christian response of "free will" is such because it is the only logical answer. Would you expect anything less than flawless logic from an omnipotent, omniscient, perfect being?

When Adam and Eve decided to disobey God in the Garden of Eden, they brought sin, death, pain, rape, crime and everything else that goes wrong in the world to the world. God does not interferee with the free will that He has given each one of us. If God did interfer with our free will we would all be robots and all would believe in Him. Stop blaming God for the wrongs that the human race does to one another and stand up and grow up and do something about it.Make it so our laws for such crimes put these people away for the rest of their lives and then maybe things in this world would get alot better

Because Divinity doesn't love us the way people want to think It does. We're kinda like an ant farm like that. Divinity shows It's love by letting us live, giving us free will and a large brain, and letting us have all this other cool stuff around to keep us amused. If Divinity were to love us as we want to be loved, bad things wouldn't happen to good people and good things wouldn't happen to bad people. Divinity isn't one of us, it's what has put Order to the Universe, completely different from us. Kinda like that smart kid in class that no one knew.......

The answers you will get will be along the lines of "free will" and such. That's the only answer christians know for this type of question. But once a christian told me it was because the victims didn't pray hard enough. Pathetic.....

there is good and evil in this world ....adam and eve ...god means good for us ..satan means to destroy us ..so all the bad is not gods fault ..satan has come to kill steal and destroy ..that is where your "bad things that happen" come from ...we have the choice to follow christ or follow satan ...God doesnt want bad to happen to us ....we choose to go in that direction and then blame god when we go the wrong way??? ...there is consequences for not following Gods laws ...last time I checked ..ten commandments is not multiple choice...people wonder why aids and STD diseases???..well God said NO adultry or homosexuality or any fornification...Why murders??..greed, jealousy, anger etc etc ...why child molesters?? impure thoughts and hearts....so on and so on ..but until christ returns there will be satan running lose on this earth to try and kill Gods creation ..that is us....I could go on and on but I think you get the picture

What exactly do you want Him to do about it? Would you kill your own child if it was going to kill someone else? Would you lock it in a closet all its life because it would unavoidably misbehave?
I'm not Christian, but the whole, "Why does God let people do bad things?" is old.

The overwhelming majority of mankind chooses to live like that...
mankind rejected God... so God booted them out of where they were intended to live and into the harsh and cruel mortal world... this brought about deteriation of the genetic code and brought all kind of ills into mankind...God still wanted to provide a way for mankind to return to Him... but... the majority still rejected Him... over a few millenia God offered mankind plenty of oportunity to return to Him... but the majority aways continue to reject Him... all of this brought about a deteriation of man's life span and moral fiber...and brain power obviously... so now we are at a point where mankind is really suffering... Yet God still has provided one last way for any who choose to come to Him... but... still... most do not... God is just letting mankind suffer the consequences of rejecting Him.... Those who do come to Him in The Way He has provided will be given a way to escape the fate of those who continue to reject Him....but few are willing to take God's way our of the fate awating all of mankind who reject Him.

Why do we? God gave us a free will. So do something about it in your own life. Instead of blaming God, find out what you can do to stop it.
God is the God Who suffers with us.
