I think of the fantastic 10' high Assyrian statue - the winged, human-headed bull -- on display in the British museum that was plundered by the English back in their royal empire days from Nimrud, northern Iraq. It's one of the most gorgeous statues I've ever seen. Maybe some day it will find its way back home...

I'm Assyrian!

So when I hear Assyrian I think of our rich culture and civilization, a people that once ruled much of the Middle East. A people that have been persecuted for being Christians in their own lands. A people that are the descendants of the Mesopotamians, also the indigenous people of Iraq. A people that speak the language Jesus spoke [modern Aramaic-Assyrian], a people that are known as the first people to accept Christianity. There are many more things that come to my mind when I hear, ASSYRIAN.

Great question!

I think of MYSELF. I am 100% assyrian and proud of it! I also think of the injustices that are happening to my people over in Iraq, where the insurgents are killing and bombing our churches. Although i was nt born in Syria ( my parents were), i have visited and fluently speak Assyrian. That is what i think of!

That is a resident of Assyria, a country that existed in history; a kingdom of Northern Mesopotamia, located in an area what is now northern Iraq and southeastern Turkey; with its cultural height between the 9th and 7th century BC.

Christian people in the middle east. Also a very powerful, yet vicious empire back in the day. If I'am not mistaken Jonah fled from them rather than preach to them in the city of Niniveh. Overthrown by the Bablylonians eventually.
