I love making homemade pizza. My husband and I stick to low or no fat recipes. I was wondering if there is a pizza crust recipe out there that dosen't contain oils and fats. Any ideas/recipes would be great. Thanks!

One thing I love to use instead of real pizza crust are low fat pitas. Don't slice or open them, just lay them flat and top them w/sauce, toppings and cheese. They work great for make your own pizza nights since they are individual size (great for portion control too), lay out all the toppings in the kitchen and let everyone make their own. They bake in about 4 minutes in a toaster oven or 5-7 minutes in the oven @ 375 degrees. My favorite pitas to use are Western Bagel Alternative pitas available at www.westernbagel.com.

Another pizza alternative I make sometimes is similar to a grilled cheese, I use light bread and zero calorie butter spray. Place bread slice buttered side down in the pan, add pizza sauce, then cheese, then 2nd slice of bread buttered side up, make it like a grilled cheese, toast 1st side then flip and toast 2nd side. Sometimes I sprinkle some garlic power or garlic salt on the buttered sides of the bread too. Yum!

There shouldn't be any fat in any pizza dough. Use any good lean dough recipe like the one for french baguettes. Make sure you use bread flour not AP
Do not use the recipe above me because it scales out at around 30 oz which is enough for 3-4 15" pizza's
Good pizza is thin pizza and if the ball of dough you are using is anything larger than a softball you are using too much . I

Easy Low-Fat Pizza Crust:

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups Warm water
1 tbsp Active dry yeast
1 tsp Honey
4 cups Unbleached flour
1/2 tsp Salt
1/4 cup Cornmeal
Preparation

Combine the water, yeast, honey, and 4 tsp of flour in a large bowl and stir gently. Cover the bowl with a damp towel and let stand for 30 minutes in a warm place until foamy. Add the remaining flour and salt and knead for about 10 minutes or until the dough is well combined and smooth. Additional flour can be added in small amounts if the dough is sticky.

Transfer the dough to a large bowl that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Cover with a damp towel and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes or until doubled in volume. Punch the dough down and roll to fit a 16-inch pizza pan. Sprinke the outside of the crust with cornmeal and top with your favorite sauce and toppings. Cook in a preheated 450 degree oven for 15-20 minutes. Slice into 12 slices using a pizza cutter or large knife.

Cook's Notes

*Serving is considered 2 slices

Flour tortillas are lowfat and make excellent individual size pizza crusts......Also.....canned biscuits....the pillsbury kind you buy 4 cans of 10.....3 biscuits has 2 grams of fat and 150 calories.....just use a little flour and rolling pin to roll them out to desired thickness.....top with pizza sauce and your favorite toppings....
