That is the chance you are taking. My son was in for 3 years before they went over to Iraq. His platoon was the first to go up into Baghdad. He came home with no physical harm done to him. His MOS was also rifleman, he earned 4 medals in sharp shooting. You will get extensive training and will learn survival techniques as well. If you don't want to go into action, don't join the Corp. I would like to thank you in advance for serving our country. Good luck in all you do!

The Marines are the Presidents personal army and he can and will send them anywhere he feels a need. Whether it's Iraq, Afghanistan,Somalia, North Korea or Iran. The Corps are always being sent into harms way all over the world and 95% of the time the general public never knows. The President doesn't need Congressional approval to send in the Marines. I served in the Army and the Navy but I have tremendous respect for the USMC and what they do and if I had it all to do over again I would proudly wear those dress blues. Semper Fi

My advice to you is that if these questions worry you, you would be a fool to join the marine corps (of all places!). The services are full enough of people who joined for financial reasons and who, on being notified of a posting to a combat zone, suddenly tried to become conscientious objectors. Look up "soldier" in the dictionary and you will find out what you are joining up to do.

As an afterthought, offhand, you do not come across as a warrior to me, and the marine corps are the original warriors. You might want to stay well away from them.

Period.

Why are you joining if you don't want to go to Iraq? Join the Army or Air force and choose a job assignment. There are many jobs to choose from. You can get into the computer field, clerical, human resources, cooking, engineering, acting, music, police (mp). Almost every job on the outside is available on the inside. Ask the recruiter to explain their EXACT function and the chances of deployment. Remember the recruiter is a sales person. What comes out of his mouth is not always the truth. He has a quota to meet each month. The worst assignments are filled first. If you don't ask he won't tell. Buyer beware! Good luck.

ok initially why do human beings say in all probability whilst each and every branch over there has of undertaking of being in attempt against. The Marines in basic terms permit you comprehend your a rifleman first and the practice for it too. Witch different branches coach you procedures to do your interest and to not be a rifleman. So whilst **** is going down you do not understand what the hell to do. At this 2d your in all probability wishing you went to the Marines at this ingredient. some Marines actual do not even pass over and a few do not see action, however the Marines have people who prefer to work out and get action. you would be high-quality.

First, don't listen to those who say that you shouldn't join if you feel fear at seeing combat.

Fear is what gets your training to fire up with a vengeance when you need it and keeps you alive when the smelly stuff hits the rotating blade. Also, the lack of fear can also mean deeper psychological problems that could endanger you and your unit.

As for your chances of deployment, beats me. War is one of those things that can change in a heartbeat, and truly, I wouldn't mind if the hostilities in Afghanistan ended before my deployment date in August. Am I being prepared for combat? Yes. Do I actually want to get shot at? Hell no. And that's not cowardice, it's just common sense. And it goes back to an old chineese curse: may you live in interesting times.

A Marine, without combat, is unhappy.
