In Catholicism you can't have a girlfriend/boyfriend, any sexual relationship outside the religious wedlock is considered adultery, masturbation is a sin, So what should the sexually active youngsters do?? Bearing in mind that getting married is not an easy/logical option for most teenagers in this day and age!!

The aforementioned obviously no longer applies to the Western Catholic societies but still prevails to a large extent in many Eastern countries like my home country.

Whether masturbation is indeed a sin is still up in debate to Christian theologians. Jesus never talked about it neither does the Bible directly address it. Marriage may not be the answer to everyone but it is the answer the Bible gives and there is wisdom in that. Not to say to get married just so you can have sex but to hold off on having sexual activity until sex is the best gift you can give your future spouse. The bottom line is to turn your eyes on Jesus and trust in the grace only He can provide as you deal with these difficult question. I would encourage you even more to not deal with this struggle alone either as we were never meant to be alone in our walk of faith but to be in communion with each other. God bless you in your journey.

You can have a boyfriend or girlfriend. Also, all Christian denominations recommend waiting until marriage to have sex not just Catholicism. Yet, 85% of Americans are Christians and about 90% of people that are married have had sex before they were married. Not everybody listens to the rules becuase is difficult. Even the most pious ones probably had sex before marriage. I don't see Catholicism as difficult as other Christian religions. They're pretty much the same. Only the Catholics have fasting, penance, Lent, and clergy celibate. Other than that, is pretty muc the same. People can choose to listen or not.

Yes, sex before marriage is a sin. As for what a youngster can do, that is where is gets sticky. It is hard especially for teenage boys to to control their raging hormones and just get past their sexual peak. Society doesn't help these days with all the short shorts and small clothes and half naked girls everywhere.
For my son, I am going to prepare him ahead of time, and as he gets older, teach him to rely on God to help him through his urges. Prayer is big. I am going to also have him figure out what will help him get over those temptations and to overcome the feeling till he is able to get married and it be an issure no longer. Will it work, I don't know. I do know though that God wouldn't tell us to do something that we couldn't do. Through prayer and a relationship with God, I think our teens can overcome societies temptations and get back that beautiful gift that God has given us of a true blessed marital union.

God bless

Judaism, Islam, and all denominations of Christianity (including Catholicism) think that sex outside of marriage is a sin.

All of these religions and probably many others think that "youngsters" are not supposed to be sexually active.

You can date the opposite sex. This is how people look for the right person with whom to share the sacrament of Marriage.

The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul."

Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity.

The purpose of sex is to bring a husband and wife closer and to create human life.

Masturbation is contrary to the human dignity of the person and anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality.

Fornication, sex between an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, is contrary to their human dignity and the dignity of human sexuality.

With love in Christ.
