In most cases a blood draw doesn't hurt. I can't say that I have had a real bad experience, however, not to intimidate you, there are some people out there that aren't as gentle as others. For the most part, there is just the little prick of the needle, the actual blood coming out doesn't hurt. Some people feel a little faint after depending on how much blood is drawn and how long it takes. When I go to donate blood, I have cooked spinach the night before or that morning with lots of liquid. This seems to help the blood flow faster and to me, smoother.

No. Not at all. If you are squeemish, ask them to use a "Butterfly". It is the smallest gauge needle they have. It may take a few seconds longer for the draw but you probably won't even feel a poke or anything. It never hurts when they "draw" the blood. The worst possible feeling could be a tiny poke from the needle. But - like I said - you CAN request a butterfly needle and they will TOTALLY accomodate ya'. It's REALLY no biggie.
No stressing.
Good Luck.

If you have a good phlebotomist drawing your blood no not at all, it should just feel like a little prick. My advice don't watch them that seems to help lots of people who are afraid. It also may help to engage in conversation with the phlebotomist so you are distracted from the task at hand.

Only if you have thin veins and get a phlebotomist that isn't very good at sticking you. I have thin veins and always tell them upfront so they can give me their best nurse/or lab tech to draw the blood with minimum discomfort. If you are sensitive, you can ask them to use the thinnest of needles on you, which is called a butterfly.

When the needle first enters, it will sting a bit. In my experience, however, it doesn't hurt as badly as injections do. Once the needle is in, the pain is over. I can't stand the sight of blood, so I tend to look away while they do it. When you don't see the needle coming, you avoid the stress which inevitably makes the sting worse.
