I have a formal dinner to go to and I want my hair to be curled. My hair is so thin and I can't keep the curls to stay in longer than a half hour! I want my hair to be down and curled but it just doesn't seem to work. Any tips will help!

I was thinking of going to a salon but this dinner is 6 hours away! I am driving and I dont want it to get messed up on the way there. I would get it done when I get there but I will be pressed for time and I will have to do it myself at the hotel.

This sounds weird, but use EVERY curler in the thing! Because I don't want tight curls, I thought I should only use the big rods - so did that and the curls didn't last long. After much ado, and consulting with a friend of mine that does this for a living - here's what I came up with.
First, wash hair the night before - use spray gel in the wet hair (even though your going to bed, trust me it makes a difference) and scrunch your hair (to give it some body).
A few minutes before your ready to set your hair, plug the curlers in. About a minute before you set your hair, spray gel into your hair again (I don't just spray on top, I lift a layer and spray throughout). Then I do the 'hair flip' thing to help it dry a bit.
Roll your hair. Like I said, I use EVERY one of the rollers. Because I want the bigger curls, I use the big rods for the front of my hair. I use less hair on the big rods and more hair on the smaller rods. I do the front first, then the back.
Then I let the hair sit AS LONG AS POSSIBLE!
I remove the back first, then the front. Just take them out, don't comb or run your fingers through.
Then I spray my hair with hair spray and let it sit for a few seconds to dry. Then use the comb to remove the tightness of the curls and respray.
That lasts me absolutely all day - from 6am through to 10pm, later if I could stay up that late.
Was I too detailed? I just know how much it sucks.
Good luck!
:)

Dear beeto79
If you really want curled hair for this formal dinner but have thin hair I think you should ask a hair dresser or a professional hair stylist if it's possible if it is then my advice would be to get your hair curled at a salon. If you don't have the money for that, you could try curling your hair when it wet then get some extra strength hair spray(by Dove) and load it into your hair so then it keeps your hair in tacked and it also smells really good.

P.S. Speaking from someone
who has curly hair it a pain in the
butt.I can't even straighten it unless
I go to a salon.

Try using less conditioner after you shampoo and a good styling foam then blow dry your hair in the opposite direction that you want to style it. After drying, proceed with curling, and spray each curl lightly with hair spray and alow it to dry before combing it out. When styling is completed, spray again with a firm hold hair spray for fine hair. An example of a good styling foam to use prior to drying would be "Guts 10 Volumn spray foam" by Redken. Have fun at the dinner party and hope my tips helped get you there in style.
