Not that I'm aware of. Unless you're authorized to do a DOJ background investigation, that is...

Why do you want to know? You could ask them for a copy of their DD214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. If you don't want them to know you are checking, you are probably out of luck. Asking the local Marine recruiter would probably be the best source of an answer to this question.

EDIT: I just found a page on the National Archives website titled " Access to Military Records by the General Public". It may help.

Check with your nearest Veterans Administration office. I'm a vet and I believe service records are a matter of public record. I'm not sure how to research someone that way - never thought much about it. But I'm confident that 10 bucks and a cup of coffee will by that kind of info.

If that does'nt work, call Dog the Bounty Hunter.

a background check would do the trick, and there are also some sites that let you search military records. They should also be able to provide some sort of documentation if it is indeed true...I don't know any marines who DONT have memorbilia from their time of service!

Only if you have their SS # , where they were born, where they enlisted and a heck of a good reason why. Such as death in the family or a last will and test. It's none of your business otherwise. Most likely, you will never find out. Secret, Secret, Secret. Would you want someone giving out your personel information???? Didn't think so. Semper Fi.

Yes, but you probably need a very good reason besides just wanting to know.
