Next time, remove the silverware and aluminum foil and just warm the carrots. You must be joking. I've warmed pre-cooked carrots in the 'wave a million times and never had them (or any other food, for that matter) catch on fire.

Well, that's something I didn't know! Do they have to be frozen or just cold? I'm gonna warm a few carrots right away in the microwave and see what happens. Oh, and don't worry, I'll keep a fire extinguisher by my side the whole time!

Carrots DO NOT CATCH FIRE IN A MICROWAVE- they may spark in a microwave.
You can best demostrate this with frozen green beans (those 1' long ones) Put a few on a napkin or plate (10 to 15) and try to aim the ends near other ends but without touching the ends. jumbo style.

Microwave ovens generate energy in the form of something similar to strong radio waves. These "microwaves" form an electrical field inside the cavity of the oven which in turn heats the food by exciting water molecules .
Some isolated pieces may build up more electrical charges than others. If a small gap exist between two beans with different charges, a small spark can occur between the gap.

Almost any food will catch fire in the microwave if you zap it long enough to drive out ALL the moisture. At that point you have basically turned the food into TINDER (look it up).

I remember when Lisa told Bart that rice makes birds explode, and it's not used at weddings any more. Why am I just finding this out?

(I don't think it really does)
