Female mosquitos need our blood to reproduce. And they're attracted to the carbon dioxide we breathe out.

They need blood to fertilize their eggs. They use some mouth parts to gently pierce the skin and coat with some kind of saliva to dull any pain. It does however leave itchiness and mosquitos are known carriers of malaria and west nile virus but not as bad as the media would lik to make it out. So long as you don't have any still pools of water like old wading pools or bird baths around your house they probably won't have much of a chance to reproduce or be attracted to your area.

The females bite us to get blood. THey need blood for the protein so she can make eggs. They suck blood by cutting the flesh and pouring anticoagulent on the cut. Then is sends its Probiscus to suck it up like a straw.
