The latest girl I have dated is high maintenance. She makes $100,000 a year with two businesses she runs herself, and can't figure why she's not turning a profit. She "rewards herself" with spas and gifts, and buys frivolous weight loss products she only uses twice. Her house is never nice enough, and she's been looking for a really fancy one. She's also a hotshot in her church.
Guys use the term "High Maintenance" about women two ways.
a) Too much money spent pampering her on stuff that's not really important to the man about the woman.
b) Too much time doing things only she wants to do to keep the relationship happy.
Basically, if you HAVE to have a rich guy, you're high maintenance. Period.

Here are examples:The girls of the Hills, my super sweet 16, the "It" girls of Hollywood, and the girls of the real OC(MTV series) are high maintenance. Basically, everything R.D.T. just stated. They are spoil women who can't take of themselves and expect everybody else to do things for them. However, nothing is wrong with being high maintenance if you are independent and a capable woman and do things for yourself.

2. Someone who constantly needs attention.
3. Someone who always has to have the best of everything and expects someone else to provide it.
4. Someone who demands things, like jewelry or leather outfits and makes the other person feel bad if they can't afford it.
5. Someone who doesn't go out of their way for the other person and its one-sided.
6. Someone who always has to have their hair done, nails done and has to go to the finest restaurants.
7. Someone who looks down on others for the way they act or dress.

Someone whom the male cannot afford (financially) to date.
In other words: The cost of the outgoings to keep her happy, outnumber the incom(ings) to ones Bank balance.
(= 'Not a good omen' for 'a good relationship' ~ Between He n She, or between that of He & the Bank Manager)

Got to have the latest fashions, from the best shops. Nights out, every night, lunches, parties, holidays in the 'right' places, being 'seen' out hairdressers every week, nails....... That type of stuff.
