my 9 yr old son is adhd. your daughters symptoms sounds like adhd.. you need to have her tested. when you get ready to go to the doctor tell her you are going for yourself and not her so you dont have any sceens till you get there and then the doctor can see for her/himself. If you live in missouri i can recomend a great doctor.

Your on the right track with counseling. But has she started her period yet? Is she being bullied at school? Did something change at home/school? If she doesn't want to sleep alone something might be scaring her. Whatever it is please make sure that you listen. It is hard and so frustrating but it will work. I'm glad for her sake that you are taking her for counseling. She even may be suffering from depression, and/or ADHD. And if she is suffering from the latter her doctor will tell you what's best for her. Don't be scared if she is given medication. We've all heard the horror stories but not everyone has bad side effects. Some children do well on medication. So good luck and keep us posted.

SOUNDS LIKE SHES BECOMING A 4 LETTER WORD TEEN!!!

When did this start? Has it been ongoing for a long time? If so, ignore what I have to say here:

Sounds like she is PMS'ing and becoming a four letter word, more dreaded than all we have heard T-E-E-N! This being said, there is no excuse for rude behavior, or being disrespectful. You are the adult and you set the boundaries and the rules.

Ok, now if this is ongoing for a long time, then I think it sounds like she is ADD or ADHD, of course she would need a battery of testing to confirm that.

Either way, counseling is the best start for her, and for you. Don't be afraid to ask the counselor for helpful ways you can help her and yourself.

Best of luck to both of you.

Part of this may be purberty, she is at that age where she might start at any time and hormones are raging. Have her eat more banannas if she likes them. It does also sound like bipolar as well, but the counselor may be able to help you out much better than I can. But girls at this age do develope an additude that want quit. It really depends on if this has always been.

The counselor will have to answer that... but sounds mostly normal teenager behavior to me... some of it seems a bit extreme if its going on all the time - so maybe she has something going on - troubles with school, boy trouble, friend trouble, issues at home, etc...

and won't sleep alone would worry me a bit - who does she sleep with - you? Is she afraid of the dark or maybe lonely?

I can't be much help but hopefully she will talk to the counselor and see what's going through her mind... teenagers are hard.. and it doesn't really get better til they are like 25 :)

I'm pretty much the same way- besides the fits/sleeping thingy.
You have to remember back to middle school, when you watched "the movie". Don't mean to be personal, but has she had her period yet? SOme of my friends haven't yet, but they're very emotional/hormonal. Maybe instead of taking her to a counselor, you should be taking her to either a Dr. (pediatrician) or the pharmacy, to get prepared!

all but the sleeping with you sounds like hormones to me.
My 12 yr old daughter is going thru all that however she sleeps in her own room by herself. Counseling is not a bad idea however don't expect it to fix the problem if its hormones.
Wish you luck

We are going through similar confusion with our 10 year old - it's very hard to know what is "normal 10 year old behavior" and what should be seen as a red flag. Getting her counseling is a very smart thing to do - good for you!!!
