I know they didn't want her to die...I just find it amusing that Spielberg didn't have her (oops, Carol, not Carrie) move away from the blackness.

Although this was just a movie, your question has merit. Light is suppose to symbolize good not evil; therefore to send Carrie Ann away from the light might have been to direct her to the right light. Maybe this light was wrong. Strange movie.

Because it was not her time to go into the light. She was suppose to lead the entities that were following her to the light.
