You most likely will HAVE to go back to the dealership. Talk to your salesman and they may even take care of it for you. If not, you most likel have a key with a computer chip in it. These keys can in fact be purchased from other places but I personally don't trust them. I recommend going back to the dealer and getting a key from them. Because the key has a computer chip in it, it will need to be programed and only the dealership can do that.
When it comes to purchacing a new remote, it is possible that it can be programed on your own but sometimes they need to be programed by the dealership.

you are going to have to go to the vw dealer and get a new remote and key. Each volkswgen has its own key designed to work with that specific vehicle. There is a computer chip inside the key so if it gets stolen it cannot get reproduced.
They keys are not cheap, trust me. I used to own a 2000 jetta and i had to get a new remote key. it was 90 dollars.

You need to go to a volkswagen dealer to get a key.
a 2006 and only one key? They should have came with 2 keys with keyless entry and a valet key.
you must have they key code to have a key made though.

I bought an extra one on ebay with the black key, then i bring that to locksmith (the one know cars) the cut the new key and he also programs the remote too. Total cost me about US50. (I'm in Houston). Also i called vw dealership they want to charge me US175 per key.

The key IS the keyless remote. If you didn't get one, it's probably only the Valet key.
Enjoy purchasing those, your looking at $200 each

You have to go to the dealer who takes your VIn and gets a key. VW keys are cut with a laser and cat be made at lwalmart..
