It has been told to me that Jesus was the light in Genesis 1:3

"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light."

But in John 1 it says Jesus was in the beginning
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

What do you think?

connie,

But the light from the stars, sun, and reflection of the moon did not come until later in Genesis 1:16
" And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.'

The scripture is clear that Jesus, the second person of the Godhead has always existed.

God Is Three Persons. The fact that God is three persons means that the Father is not the Son; they are distinct persons. It also means that theFather is not the Holy Spirit, but that they are distinct persons. And it means that the Son is not the Holy Spirit. In addition to the fact that all three personsare distinct, the abundant testimony of Scripture is that each person is fully God as well. Scripture is abundantly clear that there is one and only one God. The three different persons of the Trinity are one not only in purpose and in agreement on what they think, but they are one in essence, one in their essential nature. In other words, God is only one being. There are not three Gods. There is only one God.

The duality of Christ's nature, human and divine, cannot be fully and definitively answered. If we could, we would possess divine minds ourselves. That said, we theologians have made progress at trying to understand the concepts of the Trinity of God and God the Son's role in that Trinitarian doctrine. There are three persons in the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one true, eternal God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory; although distinguished by their personal properties. Jesus clearly stated his divinity in Joh 8:58: Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." The Jews hearing his claim understood exactly what He was saying and planned to stone Him.

In short, Jesus’ human nature could be tempted. He thirsted, hungered, and at times was full of righteous anger. Yet He never sinned. If He did, we are all lost and God is not God. Christ also was God with all of God's attributes, and these two natures existed in a hypostatic (fundamental state) union.

I doubt I can improve upon the discussion of Christ's dual nature that is found at http://www.carm.org/doctrine/2natures.htm

I suggest you start there to dig deeper into this topic.

Yes. Jesus, in his prehuman existence, was "the first-born of all creation." (Colossians 1:15, NJB) He was "the beginning of God's creation." (Revelation 3:14, RS, Catholic edition). "Beginning" [Greek, ar·khe'] cannot rightly be interpreted to mean that Jesus was the 'beginner' of God's creation. In his Bible writings, John uses various forms of the Greek word ar·khe' more than 20 times, and these always have the common meaning of "beginning." Yes, Jesus was created by God as the beginning of God's invisible creations.

How could Jesus be God when he said his Father is the only true God? John 17:3. Could there possibly be 2 only true Gods? Does that make sense?

Jesus IS the creator, not created. God=Jesus=Holy Spirit=Trinity. Three distinct persons in one Godhead. Alpha and Omega. No beginning and no end. Always was and always will be. Jesus is the Light of the World, but is not the light you mention which is created light = sun, moon etc. Jesus is our Light in a dark world. We christians are to be the light (messengers of the Word) and the salt of the world (draw others to thirst for the Lord by our witnessing to them and Christ like behavior. We're not perfect, we fall at times, but we strive to be like Jesus and trust that the Lord is there to pick us up with forgiving and loving hands when we do fall = our love, trust and faith in Him!! Grace be from God.

Yes, he was. Jesus was God's only direct creation. After that, Jesus created all other things with God's direction.

Prov 8:22 “God himself produced me as the beginning of his way, the earliest of his achievements of long ago. 23 From time indefinite I was installed, from the start, from times earlier than the earth. 24 When there were no watery deeps I was brought forth as with labor pains, when there were no springs heavily charged with water. 25 Before the mountains themselves had been settled down, ahead of the hills, I was brought forth as with labor pains, 26 when as yet he had not made the earth and the open spaces and the first part of the dust masses of the productive land. 27 When he prepared the heavens I was there; when he decreed a circle upon the face of the watery deep, 28 when he made firm the cloud masses above, when he caused the fountains of the watery deep to be strong, 29 when he set for the sea his decree that the waters themselves should not pass beyond his order, when he decreed the foundations of the earth, 30 then I came to be beside him as a master worker, and I came to be the one he was specially fond of day by day, I being glad before him all the time, 31 being glad at the productive land of his earth, and the things I was fond of were with the sons of men.

Well it say in Genesis 1:26 " Let US make man in our image and likeness..." Who was that "US" in that scripture. it had to been more than just God. It was the Father(God), Son(Jesus), and the Holy Spirit which are the trinity. They are all one. It is like a cherry pie, you cut it into three pieces, and the filling will come back together like the way it was.
