If you have a local Wal Mart store you can carry in the battery to have it recycled. The store usually has a box at the front entrance that says cell phones on one side and cordless phone batteries on the other with a recycle symbol on it. Sometimes your new phone will come with a bag for this reason with prepaid postage. As for the rest of the phone it can be thrown away safely.

I'm pretty sure you can recycle those phones. They just don't seem to get as much attention, so you might have trouble finding a place to recycle them. I bet you can get the battery recycled fairly easily (if it has a battery).
