Why do people do that? I have several members in my family that only contact one another to brag.

Only me. I call all my brothers and sisters and tell them all the time how lucky they are to have me. I also tell them they would be nothing without me. That I am someone to look up to and be respected. I keep reminding them that I was Mom and Dad's best. I always was and always will be. I tell them when they get a life they can come see me but only after asking if its ok. Also if I grant permission. to bring their own food. We get along real good too. There is only one problem. I don't have brothers and sisters.

If my brother-in-law, if he bothers to show up will brag about his intelligence. He pretty much ignores us now. (Us meaning his entire family). It's no great loss. His mom misses him but accepts it, I think that is because when he does contact anyone in the family its her. He thinks he's getting cheated out of an inheritance, there is nothing to inherit. Go figure.

there's a member of my husbands family who likes to send those stupid xmas letters every year to brag all about what things the family did over the year, the vacations they took, what they're doing to their home yada yada yada. who cares? i don't. they are so boring. i have a nice life but i don't feel the need to share everything that happened to us with everyone.

Yeah I have a S-I-L law like that. I don't pay any attention to her. I saw her kid's report cards and they're nothing to brag about.
