At a carry-in, i tasted a spaghetti that had mushrooms and onions in it, also it had a sweet taste to it. If anyone knows of a recipe that would make it taste sweet, please let me know!

Onions!
It sounds crazy, but authentic Italian dishes made from scratch use quite a bit of onions. They are sauteed at the beginning of making the sauce and cooked for a long time in the sauce. The oniony smell will be gone by the time the sauce is done, and the natural sugar in the onion will make the sauce sweet without the taste of actual sugar.

Fettuccine con Pumate e Gallinacci
(Fettuccine with Sundried Tomatoes and Chanterelles)

Ingredients:
5 oz unsaled butter
1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
sea salt to taste
6 oz pumate, or 4 oz dehydrated tomatoes
8 oz chanterelle mushrooms, cleaned and coarsely chopped
1 cup or a bit more heavy cream
1.5 lbs fresh fettuccine, or 1 lb dried
freshly ground black pepper

Method:
Put the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. When the butter melts, add the onion and salt. Saute gently until the onion is translucent. Add the tomatoes, chopped into samlle pieces. Olive oil-packed tomatoes can be used without straining or pressing to remove the oil; the oil that clings just adds flavor. If you use dried ones, be sure not to disintegrate them by soaking or boiling them too long. Add the mushrooms and saute until they are tender, about 5 mins. Add the cream and reduce for about 3 or 4 mins. Cook the pasta al dente and drain, leaving it slightly wet. Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss well. Serve on heated plates and top with plenty of pepper. Cheese is not quite suitable for this dish.

Some people actually add sugar, but it could also be because they used a certain wine in the sauce or sweet italian sausage,

Spaghetti Sauce recipe
Garlic
onion
meat of your choice
red wine
fresh tomatoes / and can tomatoes
fresh basil
italian seasoning
garlic salt
yellow bell pepper
dash of soy sauce
olive oil
sautee veggies - all but tomatoes in oil until onions / garlic are translucent.
add meat - brown
add tomatoes and seasoning / and soy
stew for a couple hours or more...can be done in crock pot...enjoy! If you want it sweet add a teaspoon or more of sugar to taste!

INGREDIENTS
1/2 pound Italian sausage
4 (6.5 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
salt and pepper to taste
1 (8 ounce) package spaghetti
DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet, brown sausage over medium heat; drain and set aside.
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, bay leaves, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, basil, oregano, salt, pepper and Italian sausage; mix well.
Simmer over medium-low heat for at least one hour; it is best if simmered all day.
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.
Mix sauce with hot pasta; serve.

Someone mentioned using Grape jelly the other day. Personally I add a little sugar to my sauce but you can use honey. Just keep adding to taste. Good Luck!

Ah, it's brown sugar. Look on the larger can of Hunt's Tomato Sauce and see if there's a recipe that calls for brown sugar--it's quite a lot too.

Mmmm brown sugar or honey....I always add sweet to mine....Teriaki sauce works great too...Or My dads secret ingredient was a 1/4 cup of russian salad dressing!...Yum!
