It could be that those people don't have strong enough beliefs of their own. So they just criticize.
It seems that a lot of people dwell on criticizing others. When was the last time that you heard something positive from someone? It's unfortunate that we find it so hard to be positive about life and living.

Firstly, there is no law prohibiting the criticizing of others' beliefs, period.
Secondly, there is no law demand the promoting of one's beliefs, period.
Thus, there is no law prohibiting the criticizing of others' beliefs without promoting one's own beliefs.

You may not like it, but that's the reality. Is it a waste of time? Not at all. Sometimes the negative aspects of an issue is raised continuously until the person is convinced that the crticism is valid, and then he will asked the other person, "So what do you propose is the better way?" Each person has their own style of discussing an issue. While criticising one view does not automatically means that the opposing view is thus valid, the point of the criticism is not to promote one's view in the first place, but to offer a negative assessment of the other view. You have to let the dialogue run its full course before judging the matter.

Some of us think that it is extremely arrogant to go around promoting your own beliefs. So we don't do it. If asked, we explain but that's it.

I think it's easier to criticize others. I mean, if I know that two plus two is four and you said two plus two is five, it's easier for me to tell you that you're wrong, rather than get out four things, divide them into 2 groups of 2 and ask you to count them.

When I say "easier," I don't mean "better."

I don't think anyone should judge or promote(which is basically trying to persuade others to believe) what they believe. Answer if someone ask and that's about it.

Pride and selfishness. It is human nature. No one (not even us Christians) like to be told we are wrong. Lets be honest about it...God is fully capable of zapping the nasty ones if He chose to do so. He doesnt need our help to defend him so it is obvious to me that I am defending "MY" beliefs.
