A nuclear reaction can be totally shielded. There is no reason for anyone to be exposed. Workers wear a film badge or dosimeter to measure minor radiation.
The effects of nuclear radiation/explosion vary with distance. A persons body can be totally vaporised. It can cause burns to the skin and eyes and internal organs. People lose their hair,get headaches, get nauseous, vomit,etc. 40 years later they can come down with leukemia and other cancers,
radiation poisoning and the effects that persons getting radiation treatment are similar.

Exposure to nuclear reaction or explosion depends on how close you are to the site, it can cause death, loss of limbs, cancer. The effects of a nuclear dissaster last thousands of years due to the radioactivity present.

have you seen that nuclear bomb that hit hiroshima? watch those movie footage after the carnage and you'll see first hand what a bomb can do with that magnitude.

The first person said it nicely but if you want graphic images, watch the footage to believe it.

When I was in the service we went to school 4 hr/day for 6 weeks . There was a question that bothered me. What is the best place to hide and we all missed it because the instructor said the best place was to be some place else.

due to placement a number of things could happen.. anything from death to blindness to loss of limbs....and no matter what "radiation cancer"....
