It is legal. I am a female police officer, I search both male and female suspects. Most male officers will call for me to search a female suspect that they have, just to cut down on those females saying the male officer was inappropriate with them. Hope this helps.

Yes, a male can frisk search a female but must respect the bikini rule. Any area that would be covered by a bikini is off limits to touch with the hands. OK, so how does a male search a female arrestee effectively before placing her in a vehicle. For years I carried a small dowell about 1/2" dia. about 12" long. I would run it under the breasts and inside the thighs. I was careful to perform this in such a manner which was not offensive but allowed me to be sure there was no weapons hidden there. I never had a complaint in 27 years.

Of course it is. If it wasn't, what would happen in smaller departments where no female officers were employed? Also, I work at a college where we have one of the two Law Enforcement Training Acadmies in the state, and I regularly go over to act in training scenarios. I have come to learn over time that if I do not feel somewhat violated during a pat-down, it's being done wrong. The ones who do it right go just about everywhere, even the "bikini" areas (the correct way to do it is reasonably quickly using the BACK of the hand). Male officers have to learn not to be timid about a thorough pat-down of a female, because we have LOTS of interesting places to hide weapons, drugs, etc. I've seen more than once a during a scenario that a trainee gave only a superficial pat-down, then when he turned his back, the actress pulled out a knife or small gun from a "bikini" area (top or bottom) and "killed " the officer. Better safe than DEAD.

Male and female officers may do a "Pat Down" frisk at the scene of the arrest or detention at the scene on members of the opposite sex to ensure their own safety and to avoid the person from destroying evidence...a more through search is done by officers of the same sex as the suspect...That's the LAW...the have the right to make sure they are safe and the suspect is not hiding or disposing of evidence

Yes, it is. If a Police Officer makes an arrest he/she can do a "Pat Frisk" for weapons. More in depth seaches are done at a Station house by the appropriate gender Officer.

Yes, it is legal, because many officers patrol alone, and have to secure their own safety in searching you for weapons.
