Assuming you all know where the showers are and how to use them, and the washing machine.

Giving everyone shower gel and talcum powder as a gift would probably get you beaten up .

Using a good cleaner on all the room's surfaces, might make you
a target too( though you could try having a "cleaning party" where people get prizes for the smelliest stuff they throw out, and you all
clean your own little patch.

The best " cover up " is
Neutradol gel ball and hide it nearby, or one either side of you perhaps. They are not as good as using the spray, but they are continuous, you can forget about them once they're there. Or Dettol spray ( avoid Oust-it's smelly and ineffective)

M : )

Do your laundry more often, clean your room into the corners and under everything with a mild bleach solution or disinfecting cleaner and spray an anti bacterial spray. Then take a shower before you come back in al sweaty and gross and don't leave wet stuff piled up in your laundry.

All the other stuff, Febreeze, Airwick, etc... jst covers up the problem. Bad smells usually come from bacteria and cleaning is the only real solution.

I think everybody has to pitch in and change their sheets, wash the towels and do their laundry. That should be done once a week, and you shouldn't just recycle your clothes; that is, letting them sit out for awhile doesn't make them clean and ready to wear again. They need to be washed after every couple of wearings or so. Make sure the socks get washed for sure. Spray the sneakers with Fabreze. If that's not possible, get some Oust Air Sanitizer and spray that regularly. Oh, if you eat food in your room, make sure there isn't something spoiled lurking around and get rid of the garbage every night before bed. Sounds boring, I know.

My dorm room in college would get gamey- there were 3 of us sharing a room that was 10x12... weak! Anyway I used to open the windows and doors and then sprinkle the carpets with a deoderizer and then vacuum... everyone would do their laundry and wash their sheets and towels... usually it wasn't any one thing that caused the funk- it just happens when people crowd into a smaller space! Oh also make sure you or your roomates are leaving their shower shoes in the room, take them off before you go in or leave them in the bathrooms... they can get down right rank! A good trick is to stick dryer sheets in your drawers, under beds and in the closets... Also you can make a kind of impromptu diffuser by bring water to a simmer in a hot pot and adding potpourri.

Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. Put a box near the hamper, another near the shoe rack, another in the closet, etc. ,etc...very effective in absorbing all kinds of odor. Replace often - like every 4-6 weeks - more economical than those expensive sprays
(which could be bad for your health anyway).

Everybody has the cover-up suggesstions but I think you need to find the source of the smell. It may be a mold under the carpet, etc. A thorough cleaning is difinitely in order.

There is the airwick thing that I got, it sprays every 5 10 or 30 minutes so that your room is always fresh. I love it.
