Just ask him if he wants to go out and do something already. After you do that and you talk on the phone the long pauses shouldn't be there anymore. He's nervous and doesn't know what to say on the phone. You have to go out and break the ice already. After that everything should be much much better.

Just shag and get it over with. My boyfriend is a hugely shy guy and it was really awkward when I was first trying to get with him. In the end I had to just pounce on him and snog him. Within a couple of weeks I'd gotten him into bed (he was a virgin so that was awkward too) but after that he became far more easy to talk to and opened up a lot. He still has his quiet days, but it's all far less awkward and we can comfortably share a silence (like they talk about in Pulp Fiction!!) You don't necessarily have to wait for him to ask you out. Just take him and have him, no messing, it's get rid of the awkwardness no worries. Good luck

Try talking about something that he's interested in. If he has nothing to say about his favorite movie, then you have a problem. Try doing "would you rathers" they are always interesting and that way he is an active part of the conversation. If he still wont be talkative, tell him that. Just say that he needs to be more responsive, guys understand things when they are straight forward.

Look it means he wants to ask you out but can't think of the perfect thing to say and despirate to think of something as its do or die, either he gets you to like him or you hate him forever.

Put dude out of misery and ask him out.

Its really that simple.

Once you both establish you like each other as more then friends and its ok for the other to know and attempt kissing and stuff you both relax.

Guys have it far harder as guys dont go bonkers accusing girls of only being friends to get in their boxers and being perves or creeps and all that.

Short snetenced is a good sign... it means his mind is going blank trying to work out what to say.

Or say you just go and kiss him...

then ask ok would you like to go to the cinema for part two

if you want to go out with him then ask him out! he clearly likes you as he always calls but he's too shy to ask. just ask him out because he may never ask you because he probably thinks that you don't like him!!! x
