Depends if you buy it off the rack or have to order it.
If you have to order it you better get cracking.
It took to months for mine to be altered, (I bought off the rack at a sample sale).

I thought like your family did when I got engaged & started looking 6 months before my wedding...however, when I went into Davids Bridal, I picked out the dress, tried it on, bought it, and left the store with it in less than half an hour. The only alteration it needed was a hem (which I did myself less than a month before the wedding!). Dress shopping differs for everyone. If you are going to a place like Davids, where they have every size in each style in the store, you shouldn't worry about it too much, but if you want something made to your measurments, you need to get in there soon. Either way I would definitely start looking, but do not get too stressed. Congrats on your upcoming wedding & Good Luck!

You do have plenty of time, but, sometimes the dress may need alterations and need to be sent back, that might take some time especially if it needs to be sent back again. ( you never know). To play it safe you should look for a gown within 6 months before the wedding. You still have time, but I would suggest you start looking within the next month. Good luck!

If you are going to have a traditional wedding dress, it takes 6 months minimum to get your dress. There are some places that can get it done in less time than 6 months but they won't guarantee it and if they will, it may not turn out right. There are even some places that will go as long as a year in advance but you'll find that either they are more likely pushing for an immediate sale than actually needing the extra time.

You need to chose your dress and purchase it no later than the beginning of July. This way if it has to be ordered then it has plenty of time to be delivered before your wedding. Also it leaves you plenty of time to gain or lose weight and still get alterations done. If you order this early in the year you will be outside of most bridal shops alterations and warranty policies. This will put you in a serious situation if your body goes through any changes before the wedding.

If you are ordering through a shop, you might want to consider ordering it within the time frame that your mom, mother in law and sister told you. It does take a couple months for the dress the be made and for the shop to get it back. Plus, after you get it, you will probably need to get it altered so it fits you better.

Each bridal salon varies on the suggested time frame for ordering bridal gowns. But most places recommend you order your dress at least 6 months prior to your wedding. While you shouldn't feel rushed right now, you definitely should begin your search in the next month or so to give you time to find the right dress and place your order by April at the latest (and maybe earlier depending on the timeframe recommended by the salon you choose).

If you're buying a rack dress, you have plenty of time but most places will need to order your dress and then you will need alterations. Believe it or not, this takes a LONG time. I don't know why but you will want to get this taken care of soon to avoid any problems.

Depends if they have what you want in your size. It can take a few weeks to order if they don't have what you want. I had a dress the first day I went shopping in September, waited until December to get it altered, had it 3 weeks later. Now it's just sitting & waiting for March.

You should be looking right now. Once the dress is picked out t hey need to order it and that can take 12 weeks to come in. Then you will need to have it altered, pressed or steamed.
